Figures that when I'm working on my credit report, a CA just came out of nowhere, trying to attempt to collect on a debt from 2006.

I received a letter from Debt Recovery Solutions attempting to collect a 2006 Verizon debt for an old land line I had.

I suspect it's legitimate, and I want to do whatever I can to get this taken care of before it shows up on my credit report (I'm submitting a mortgage application within the month).

Should I call them and pay in full ($221), call them and try to settle, or request a PFD? Since it's not reporting on my CR yet, I'm not sure I want to bring attention to that by requesting a PFD.

Does anyone have any advice on what my next step should be?

If this gets on my report, it will be my only collection and I'm guessing my score will tank.

Please help!

Sort of a PNTR (Pay Not To Report). You're right that if they do report this your scores will tank.

From a BK years ago to:
EX - 3/11 pulled by lender- 835, EQ - 2/11-816, TU - 2/11-782

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem".

You could send a DV letter to the CA.

Or maybe try to contact Verizon, to see if this is the debt, the CA is trying to collect on.

Ask Verizon if they still own the debt and are willing to accept payment.

Make sure to ask, if that will leave the CA out of the picture.

Oh and what MarineVietVet said....Get something is writting to agree to "Not report".

There are many thread here about Verizon, here is a search for " Verizon success"

http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=++Verizon+success+

Hope this helps
