Word of caution when doing DV for CC

So being new and all, I feel bad asking for help but having nothing to offer myself...BUT...a word of caution for someone who maybe new to credit rebuilding and haven't read some of the previous threads.

I pulled up my credit report and saw that I had a late payment for an account but because I was using a monitoring service, it didn't give me the exact day that I was late. So I called them up because I wanted to get the information to GW but I wanted to know the exact month.

Hehe, to my surprise, I was late 4 times on that account. But my credit report only showed that I was late once. Since it's going to fall off in July I figured I would just leave it alone because I surely don't want to "wake up" anyone and have them report on the later months the rep told me.

You all might already know this, but I thought I would just pass this along that maybe before you DV (in my case GW), you might want to call the creditor and just make sure that is the same information showing on their system because how sad would I have been to send a letter just to have MORE lates show up.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

Thanks for the gentle reminder.

It takes time to rebuild your credit. Lots of people have awakened sleeping giants accidentally.

The other gentle reminder I would give everyone is to OPT OUT of your CR immediately.

PS - if the late is going to fall off in July 2012, it has a very minimal effect on your FICO score.
