I ran my credit report and saw a derogatory charge from Columbia House (Trident Asst). I have enver had this accoutn, is was showing in collections for $78.00. I did some research and found that they do this to alot of people. I filed a BBB complaint, and it is going to be removed in 10 days from all three CRA's.

Did this all online- super easy. If you need the info its below:

Wow, this is unbelievable because the same thing happened to me but I PFD them just because I am can't close on my home loan. I wish I had known this was there customary practice. I did not think I owed them anything however since at one point I did have a Columbia House account (years ago) I paid them especially since my score dropped a few points and I am a borderline loan applicant so I needed all of my points.

i just did a dispute through experian on this CA...two days later it was removed...grrrr crappy CAs jus tputting stuff on credit just becasue

I had them too! I called them and said I didnt think I had an account with Columbia House but went ahead and paid as it was only $50 and they removed it from my CR.

Who removed it from your CR nwokcguy? Did you have an agreement for them to removed it BEFORE you paid it or did it disappear on its own?

I have the same on mine, but do not recall having a Columbia DVD account ever. I am currently putting together a PFD because it is only $44, but if I should dispute first then I will definitely do that? Any advice???

They handle all different types of collections. I had a bounced check they were collecting on. Trident is pretty simple call them tell them you will pay if they delete and they will send you a letter than you can go online and pay or mail a check. Took less than two weeks for it to be deleted from my CR

Did you send a letter or call? I would rank Trident one of the easiest collection agenices to deal with

I sent a letter. I did not call them as calling a CA is usually a "no-no" for me.

I would change with them. Most people have called and just gotten a PFD over the phone. They will send you a letter before you pay

Same thing happened to me - just checked Experian and here they are some random company with a collection.

I disputed with Experian and they verified ... what a shocker

Immediately went to BBB and filed a complaint - just got a response from them and they stated they are going to close the account and remove from all credit bureaus within 30 days. I'll keep you posted ((if they don't im suing, since they made false claims through BBB))

If it really is bogus debt I would fight tooth and nail (time permitting).

I pulled my credit report and found I had an collections on my report for an returned check that I was not aware of. I had an roomate that stole some of my checks and used them. I dsputed the item, however it was never removed. I called the company and spoke with an representative that provided information on the account. To clear this account I paid the account $60.19 with an cashiers check. I called to confirm payment was received and got an very nasty and rude representative named Latrisse. I requested to get an letter stating account is paid in full, Ms. Nasty stated, I will need to send them an seld addressed enevelope to receive the letter. SMH... My question is, are they required by law to report information paid to all credit bureaus?

Sorry for the late post but I'm wondering, today I mailed a letter to Trident Asset asking for a pay for delete regarding a bad check from 2009. Should I wait for a response from them by mail or should I just call them and ask over the phone? My only concern about asking over the phone is accidently acknowledging the debt verbally and renewing the statue of limitations in that event. My letter stated I was not taking liability for the debt only offering to pay in exchange for the removal of the debt. So what do you think I should do? I want this over with and the faster the better but I'm also curious if they will even respond to my letter. ONe more question: HOW in the world do I post my own question on this website??? I can't seem to figure out where I can do this yet.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I wanted to see if anyone has had any luck with Trident Asset Management as of late? I just tried to call them regarding a Columbia House collection for $48. It's the only negative/collection on my credit report (and it's only on Experian). I called them and never said anything about the legitimacy of the debt, I simply said I didn't know what this was from and why they were collecting it from me. I told them that it's only $48 and I'll pay it if they just delete it from my CR. She said that it would remain on my CR but show paid. I told them that this isn't my debt and the only reason I would pay it is because it's nominal and I want it off my report. She proceeded to read me some "Dispute Disclosure" and said that I would receive it in writing. Not sure **bleep** that is. haha

Anyone have any ideas?

ps. I contacted my bank to find records of the actual payment. The Columbia House was mine, but I actually did pay it back in 2008, I am just having trouble remember what bank/card I paid it with so I haven't been able to find proof.

If I remember correctly, when I called them I asked about a Pay for Delete. The lady I spoke to told me...or more like "hinted" to me that they could only remove it from my credit if I had a legitimate reason for them to do so. I asked her what exactly did that mean. She said, a legitimate reason would be something "such as not recieving a bill from them". I said, "Oh, well I never recieved a bill then! (wink, wink)!" and she said, "Oh okay then we can definitely delete that from you credit once payment is secured." Basically, you don't acknowledge the debt but you tell them you never got a bill and would like it removed on that basis. THey were super easy to work with. Try again! I wish you the same luck I had.
