The thread you're talking about, can be used for medical collections too.

The DoFD on medical is the date of medical service, so that would be before 2007.

I would send the CA a GW letter, asking kindly if they would delete. It's due to drop off your CR next year right?

Hi again folks! So I'm still working at getting an invalid medical collections removed from my CR (it was paid by insurance). The provider - who admits that it was paid BY INSURANCE - refuses to help me out at all. No idea why - the woman I spoke to was just nasty. The creditor just insists this is a valid debt. This is the only negative on my CR, so it's really galling me. I contested it with TU and all they did was update it to say it was "paid in full" and "dispute resolved." Well yeah, it was paid in full by the insurance company years ago! Hmph.

Anyway, I noticed the threads at the top of this forum giving advice on the steps to take with debts, but it says it only applies to non-medical debt. Anyone know what the difference is? Would the steps detailed not work with medical debt (i.e. filing a complaint with the BBB, etc)? Just curious, because I don't know what to do about this. It's paid, so I can't make a PFD agreement. And everyone I talk to who could help is just being a gigantic jerk!

Also just to mention, the original debt was sent to collections in 2007.

IMO, that thread needs updating. You can follow the DV-PFD steps with medical as you can non-medical. I've removed medical baddies after a DV alone, but only had one medical CA plaguing me and they wouldn't bite for a PFD after validation from a DV.

At one point, these forums talked about medical debts. We don't anymore, but some have followed the HIPAA process to get medical baddies off. That's why you see that mention in the Steps thread. Under the HIPAA process you cannot communicate with any outside party like the CA, BBB, FTC, or others to get a baddie removed. The premise under HIPAA is that your medical info is private and therefore dealing with the CA breaches that privacy and voids out the process. I was never gung-ho about it and there are plenty of stories in here lately of CRAs verifying medical baddies even after following through with the HIPAA process.

ETA...Ah...LIGHTNIN caught it...it's paid...Ditto to a GW.

Wanted to update - I sent a HIPAA letter to TU and Exp and just got a response from TU today saying they were deleting the paid account! Woo-hoo! One down, one to go, and no baddies for me! If anyone is going through this crap, send me a msg and I'll send you the link I was sent to get drafts of letters that will work with these fraudulent type of debts!
