Disputed medical bill all of a sudden showing up on credit report.

I received 2 bills from a imaging service for the same visit. I paid the first bill of $264 then I received another bill for $84. I called immediately to find out what was going on with the 2nd bill. I spoke to a representative that said this looked strange and he would put it in dispute. This was back in October of '11. All of a sudden I checked my credit report and I see a collection for $81. It has dropped my credit score 100 points! How do I go about fixing this? Any advice would be much appreciated.

If it were me, I would call the medical provider and talk (very nicely) to them about the mix up. Let them know that you had disputed the additional charge and that it was your understanding that it was being adjusted and that you have not (if you really haven't) received anything to the contrary since. If the charge is a ligitimate charge, I would offer to pay in full in exchange that they immediately contact the CA and have them immediately remove the tradeline from your cr's, since it was "truly a miscommunication and misunderstanding on your part."
