I am in the same situation & would love to know if this is true. Paid the CA over 2 years ago. Wish I had known about PFD back then.

What's the basis for the dispute? It's accurate, right?

Yes. It would be to have it removed from the CR. HSBC rep is the one who suggested it due to the fact that they use to do a lot of GW deletions but due to the fact there was no consistancy of the reps doing them, they made a choice to not to due them anymore, but delete info form their files in 3-4 years, and that they wouldn't verify a dispute.

It is not kosher to really discuss disputing accurate information on this forum..

OP, nobody can answer your question without running afoul with the Credit Repair Discussion Guidelines, Terms of Service and User Guidelines . If they said "yes" to disputing an accurate account, then their post would get zapped. These forums tend to have stricter rules on credit repair because of the Credit Repair Organizations Act.

Mod hat off for a sec, I wouldn't do it. Why? CapOne bought HSBC and CapOne will haunt you to the very end. Also, if you read in here, there are many, many posters who tried to get paid HSBC accounts removed via disputing only to have it verified. That 3-4 yr rule certainly doesn't apply to many on here. Your odds are better at GWing.

Go figure. Oh well. I don't know if the person who posted it that had the suggestion on it got anywhere either. We can qualify on my income alone for a mortgage, and we would prefer to keep it that way due to if anything were to happen to one of our incomes we could make it. So we'll just wait it out. THnaks!

Consumers dont have the right under the FCRA to simply send in an "I dispute" letter, and invoke the right to any investigation/reinvestigation of the "dispute."

The statute places an initial burden on the consumer to identify the asserted inaccuracy, and provide all supporting documentation reasonably required to investigate the asserted inaccuracy.

No furnisher is required to investigate a dispute if the consumer did not provide sufficient information upon which its accuracy can be investigated.

They can simply dismiss it as "frivolous or irrelevant."

I do believe that we have already determined that. And again, maybe someone should also let HSBC know that their reps advise such avenues to take.

IMHO people are too quick to jump on a dispute to the CRAs. There are avenues to take before that is done that may have better outcomes. You must have a valid reason to dispute to the CRA, but there's nothing wrong with trying a PFD or a GW.
