Gotta love bottom feeders

DW came to me because her mom called her and was upset. A CA had called her and was abusive to her. DW told her to talk to me because I know something about CAs. I talked to her, she told me about the CA. The guy called and said he needed a payment, she asked what for, he wouldn't tell her, just said he needed a payment on this account. She said she doesn't know about the account, hasn't had credit in over 10 years. She told him she was on social security, he said that they would take that, there was a new "Obama Law" passed and they can take their checks.

She is 70 years old, completely disabled, on 24 hour oxygen and homebound. She was so upset she couldn't breathe. She has a total income of $548 a month and didn't know what she was going to do because they were going to take it. I told her not to worry, I'd take care of it for her. I pulled her CRs for her, nothing on there, no CAs, no nothing, just some old paid off accounts.

I called the number the guy left, got his answering machine, left a message. He called back about 10 minutes later. Below is the conversation.

Me: Yes, I need to take care of this account for my MIL. Gave him her info.

Him: Yes, we need to take care of this, It says she's on SS.

Me: Yes, that's her only income.

Him: Well, we were going to take that, so it's good you called.

Me: You can't take her SS.

Him: Oh, yes we can, have you heard of the new Obama Law? We can take anything.

Me: No, there is no Obama Law, you can't take anything.

Him: I think I know more than you.

Me: Bet you don't!

Him: I thought you were going to take care of this, now you're just being Mr. Slick.

Me: I am taking care of this, what's your address?

Him: Why?

Me: So I can send you a "Cease and desist letter"

Him: OH, well it's 835 E.,,, "Screaming at phone"... Tell you what, you just look it up.

Me: Ok

Him: "Still screaming" Tell you what, I'm getting in my car and driving home" Slammed the phone down.

I then looked them up, filed a FTC complaint, then filed a complaint with the State AG. BBB won't do any good, they're not accredited. Wrote a C&D letter. But boy did I enjoy calling him, I haven't sent the letter yet, so I think I'll call him back a couple times tomorrow. Just so I can have some fun.

Amazingly unprofessional in what is supposed to be a professional setting. Obama law? Mr. Slick? Screaming, then telling you to look it up? Yikes.

No update as of yet. He won't return my calls. Monday I'll call the main number and ask for a supervisor. I'll probably get the same guy with a new name.

Absolutely horrible! How does this man sleep at night knowing what he did to your MIL? And what he probably did successfully to other little old ladies across the country? This should be arrest-worthy, seriously. Please call him everyday and harass him just for US! I want to know that he is being harassed and as miserable as he makes other people feel! Was he raised by wolves? Geesh! I shoudln't have read this, its too late for me to be mad!

Haha...I've had a few of those calls from CUSTOMERS when I worked at a bank. They'd call and rant and what not, wouldn't give me details about what they were looking for and the second he cursed or talked about doing something stupid..."Sir, please call me back when you're ready to discuss this like adults". Amazing that they rarely call back.

There is nothing in the credit world I love more than CA's getting ahold of long time users of this board haha.. it always plays out so badly for the CA..

I got one a couple months back; got a dunning about a debt. Had no idea what it was.. I sent a DV, but in the interim I got a call, so I asked what the debt was for and they said 'your wife had a 5200 dollar deliquent debt to Discover" -- I was like, well, never been married so that must be wrong. Then they said my mothers name, who died 12 years ago, and the debt was defaulted 2 years prior in 1996, when I was 17. He was like 'well, you lived with her so you legally owe us this." -- you sure about that buddy? ha "you think you know more than me?' -- frankly buddy, yes. Hang up.
