Fiancé finally decided to join nfcu, opened a checking account over the phone, kit should be arriving early next week. She has no baddies but too many inquiries and a years worth of positive credit history. High utli on some of her cards, my question is after we get married monday, ( legal marriage ) not ceremony that won't happen till the summer, anyway would it possible to join nfcu through her? And when should she apply for a cc with them? Her scores are 680 range due to high utli, pay them off first?

I don't know anything about when you could join NFCU, but I opened an acct. at NFCU a few months ago. About a month later, I tried for a NFCU credit card. I do have several baddies on my CR with a credit score much lower than hers and they approved me for a CC with a $5000 limit. I think they are very generous in approving credit, so I bet she wouldn't have any problem in getting one.

You should be able to join NFCU through her. I was able to join through my husband, since they require an "immediate family" relationship to a member if you are not otherwise qualifying for membership on your own.

Proudnavymom, what were your scores when you applied for your cc ? I just joined about a few weeks ago and my scores (high 500's) are low as well. I was wondering if I should wait until my scores get to a certain # before I apply or just go for it.

You will definitely qualify on Monday.

And I agree with others on the thread-- NFCU is incredibly generous. I had several (like 10) baddies when I apped and was approved for a $6K CC in December 2011. I started rebuilding in Nov 2012 and hopefully, I will be able to refi my auto with them soon.

Congrats on ur marriage and joining NFCU in the future-- they are a great CU to have.

One last question, should I wait before applying for their cc? I was looking to start a mortgage loan in may, also a small car loan. Would a cc with a somewhat high limit hurt my loan amounts?

General rule of thumb is no new credit apps within 6 months of apping for a mortgage loan.

I'm not buying the house or car for myself, I'm doing it for my disabled mother and intellectually disabled ( autism) brother, my father left them and got remarried so I've considered that I am their only life line, so to all those who continue to help me here and answer my questions I want to give you a heartfelt thanks from my family and I. My situation is taken care of but theirs isn't, not till I get them that house and a reliable car ( Hyundai genesis r-spec) . personal thank you to shogun especially. You've done wonders to my credit report and score since I joined this forum.
