Can I remove a small cable company bill that was listed as negative?

Hi All,

I have a question. I recently checked my credit report and credit score and I noticed that I had anywhere from 6- 8 negative items affecting my score(depending on the credit report) One of those items is a charge off acct from Charter Communications cable company for $176. the original date was May 2003 and it is showing a $0 balance and paid off as of March 2005. Would this small amount hurt my credit score and if so, is there anyway I can get this removed being that the amount is so old and it was paid of 3 and half years ago?

The original situation was I in grad school(and I did have some credit problems in grad school) and in order to make sure I paid utilities on time I had them drawn directly from my checking acct. Same thing with the cable bill. I remember calling to cancel and I think I just assumed it would come out of my checking acct but apparently when I moved to another city after graduating, they just sent a bill which I never received. Then about 4 months into my new job, my company moved me yet again. So I lived in like 3 cities in a 6 month span and I guess it appeared to the cable company that I was dodging and that was not the case. If I would have known I would have paid right away.

You can only try. The drop date would be from the OC did you stop paying around 2003? The date paid doesn't matter on any old dept (except some PR)

Who did you pay the OC or the CA?

Yeah, I stopped paying in 2003 and I paid a CA-Credit Protection Association. It was opened in August 2003 and I just checked, it's been reported as paid since Feb 2004.

leave it be it hasn't reported since 2004 If you do anything it will update look at your CR and see if EX or TU tells you the drop date.

Always remember that all baddies age. As they age they stop hurting as much.

No I don't see drop date which kind of worries me. It just said that it was updated in 2005.

So you don't think that will affect me credit much and there's no reason to try to get it dropped off?

If you don't see a date it is due to be removed, look for a DOFD, date of first delinquency.

The drop date should be 7-7.5 years from DOFD.

If you have other collections, work on the most recent or the ones who are still updating. Those will do more getting them removed than any.
