File a police report and send it to them.

The police may or may not try to find out who done it. I would check out the FTC's website regarding ID theft.

A utility bill is showing on my credit reports that cannot be mine. I called the utility company and they have my name and social security number for this account. It was 120 days behind and then went to collection. They told me to file a police report and fax it to them. I'm wondering what will happen after I do this. Do the police actually help you find out who is using your personal info to open accounts? Will the utility company refuse to take this off of my report until they find out who opened this account in my name? This is a double whammy. Seriously late payments and an unpaid collection. I'm ticked off :-(

Thanks

Message Edited by teton on 08-18-2008 04:42 PM
