Just thinking here, why would they wait until August to have the account deleted when they filed bk in April? And the account was accurate, the last date reported was in 04/2008, so if they weren't reporting no longer, why just have it deleted? No action on the account meant it would just show as Transferred, closed/Never late. The OC no longer exist so they could not have been the ones who had this deleted.

Since joining these forums I have been taking a look at my CR's everyday (especially EX). Today in shock I noticed that my Crescent Jewelers account had been taken off. I opened this account in 09/2006, and has been reporting since 10/2006, I have never been late, nor missed a payment. In April of this year I was notified that SST had bought the accounts from Crescent, and payments were now going to them. No problem I thought, I make my payments and keep going. I went and made my final payment in the Crescent store for the month of May, at which time I them pull my payment history, good thing I did. SST was saying that I was a month behind, and then followed up with the annoying phone calls, I had to send a letter to them. Here's a copy:

I am requesting at this time that no further automated or person telephone communication be made to myself in regards to my account. I have made several attempts to have my balance corrected, and to date unsuccessful. On May 4th of this year I made my payment to Crescent Jewelers in person, and at that time I asked for and received my payment history, and balance with them, I in turn faxed those documents over to your Company, and my balance still has not been corrected. Under the agreement that I made with Crescent Jewelers, I have never been late or missed a payment. Your Company has now taken over collecting for Crescent Jewelers since they have filed bankruptcy, and I will continue to keep that agreement. My current balance is 637.60, which is 4 payments July-October of 131.00 and a final payment for November of 113.60, at which time my agreement with Crescent Jewelers will have been met, and no further payments will be made.

They finally fixed this matter. On my Ex CR it states at the top of Accounts in Good Standing that.

"These items may stay on your credit report for as long as they are open. Once an account is closed or paid off it may continue to appear on your report for up to ten years".

Under the Crescent Account Status Details: This account is scheduled to continue on record until Apr 2018

When I saw that it was no longer there today I called EX. The rep. said the OC no longer wanted it reported on my report. I was in shock, the company no longer exist, I was told to call SST, for they are the only ones who could have done it, since they hold the account (which by the way they were never reporting that I was paying since May of this year). SST said they do not have the power to remove the account, but could add to it, but no, we did not remove it. Called back to EX, a very nice Rep. it doesn't make since that this was taken off, and he would have a supervisor look at this, and to call back on Tuesday of next week.

What course of action should I take on this matter?

It is possible the OC ask to remove all accounts they were reporting. I don't know the process when they go BK, but it is possible.

Really not much you can do, IMO.

FCRA doesn't state that a creditor must report, just that if they do, they must report accurately.
