I have ben working to repair my credit over the past two years by not letting anything negative getting reported and the past year working to pay things off. I paid off a few debts I had with a hospital. They had already went to collections but I paid the hospital directly, not the collections agency. I paid these prior to really reading and learning about the process of repairing my credit tho. My question is, is there any way to get them deleted now? They were sold to Central States Recovery. I am in Oklahoma. I apologize in advance as I am not fully up to speed on the all the terminology used when talking about this stuff. Any information is greatly appreciated.

According to the credit reporting guide the CA must delete their trade line once the unpaid debt is paid to the OC.

I spoke to the collections agency this morning and they said just bc I paid it doesn't mean it comes off my report. That is isn't their policy to remove it. I am not extremely educated in this whole system. I am learning tho. Thanks for your reply. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Just some additional information. The debts were from 2011 I believe. And I paid them on March 07,2013 and the collection agency shows them being paid 3/12/13 but this is 5/15/13 and they still show up with a balance on my report.

My credit score was 595 but has steadily fallen to 568 in the past 2 months. The only thing I can account this to is that my 1 credit card with a $300 limit had a balance of around $239 up from $198. And I had a car dealership "shotgun" my credit. I have gotten that cc paid down to around $175. I am now aware of the impact on having a balance with in that high of ratio to available credit. I will have it paid down to a $10 balance within the month. I'm hoping for a substantial increase in credit score.

What do you mean by "shotgun". Never heard that before.

If you paid the OC they are responsible for telling the CA. However, since it is paid and the CA is showing a balance due you can dispute as paid. It will only update the TL to reflect paid unless the CA doesn't respond to the dispute.

Shot gunning is when those car dealers who offer help to people with less than perfect credit help getting a vehicle send your app out to say 20 lenders and they pull your credit. I talked to one dealer and had around 20 pulls show up over the next week and a half, even after I had told them I was not interested in buying a car from them.

A soft pull only you can see. No creditors can see it and they don't hurt your score. They are removed after one year.

A hard pull is when you apply for credit and everyone who pulls your credit can see them. They count against your score for 1 year but stay on your CR for 2.

Negative items like charge offs, repos, and collections stay for no longer than 7.5 years from the DoFD. If they haven't been excluded by the last date they can legally stay you can dispute as obsolete.

If an item is supposed to be exluded they normally are, even a bit early in some cases. The CRAs don't want to be in violation of the FCRA.

As for the lender telling you that, I don't know why she would. The only thing that can stay indefinitely is the tax lien.

I would contact the IRS and see about filing as an injured spouse. From what I gather, you did not work and it is based on your spouses income but you are on it because you were married.

I know it worked for my daughter.

The lien is a state lien. There was also a federal lien for the same year but the IRS took my refund and that one was paid several years ago, in 07 I think. I have been in contact with the OK tax commision and they told me to file for a "innocent spouse relief" ( I think thats what it was called). I did all the paperwork for the injured spouse for the Federal one back in 06 but was denied. I read up a little avout the state lien and the spouse relief and it says you must prove you didn't know about it and didn't benefit from it. I signed the taxes that year bc we were married and we had joint accounts so any funds from any sources went into that account. So I'm not sure if I stand a chance.

Regarding the CA, first I would dispute the balance with the CA since you said you paid the OC. If they do correct it, it should help our util ratio. Once they update the balance you should write goodwill letters to both the CA and OC to have the tradeline removed.
