Collection keeps popping up and disappearing!

My husband and I are planning on buying a house next summer so we've been keeping an eye on our scores pretty closely. When he signed up for creditkarma in April we noticed that there was a collection listed (progressive financial) and it's definitely an error. So, we ordered all of his paper reports and when they came- NADA. Perfectly clean. The next month, his CK and CS were both clean. Fast forward to now- we pull CK and CS and the stupid collection popped back up! We don't have any details whatsoever except for what those sites show us. Do we order the paper reports again to do a DV letter? This is so frustrating.

I would send a DV CMRRR asap. puts a bar on them for collection activity until they validate. If they keep doing it then I would file a complaint with the FTC and AG in your state.

OK, I can do that. They should be able to find his "account" with them with just his name yes? I know I'm not to give them more details than necessary. I was hoping to find dates and account # stuff on the paper reports.

Yes his first and last name and whatever account number is listed on the credit report, that is sufficient enough.

The only place I can see anything about it is on Credit Karma and it just says Progressive FInancial- $159. No dates or numbers. Credit Sesame also reports one collection which I'm assuming is the same but gives no details.

I wouldn't even bother with CK and CS. Check your reports from annualcreditreport.com or directly from the CRAs.

We did order the official ones- they showed nothing. BUT at the same time, those collections dropped off of CK and CS as well (and popped back up the next month). Really weird and annoying. So now I have no idea if they are going to show if we order them again. I guess we'll just order and see.

If the paper ones show nothing again should we not worry about it?

I hate 3rd party sites like CK. I never use them. I am sure guiness will agree with me. If that CA is not listed on your CR's from the CRA's I would not worry about it to much.

Have you been checking your CRs often? Another possibility is a split file, I've seen things like this happen.
