New collection alert today....

Ok this is the story, for the past year I have been cleaning things up and got score up to 686 until I got a alert today that The CBE Group has posted a collection to my CR..I took a 50 point hit. They are wanting $600 for a Direct TV acct gone bad. My question is...how and what should I do in steps to make this all go away.I was so close to getting my goal of 700. Also will my score bounce back once this is gone. If you guys can give me the steps to take that you would think is best I would be grateful. Also will this affect my current credit cards in anyway...Cap1 just gave me a $500 card 2 weeks ago ( still haven't used it)

You should send them a DV. Is this a valid collection? If so, maybe you could try a PFD.

Ok if I may just add this...I just called Direct TV and they are 1: willing to except payment and said they would notifi the CA to pull back the report or I can call the CA and give them the confirmation number that I paided in full and they will remove it, my question is ...can I trust them? The second option I had was to reinstate service $204 and the CA would have to deleat the report...does this sound about right? I just don't want to have it on my report, money is not the factor here now.

If it sounded like it was normal operating procedure than I would trust their word.

Can you just do a PFD with the CA?

Technically, unless the OC actually pulls back the account, all they have to do is upate to paid. Without written proof, your chances are 50/50 they will do it.

I would trust Direct Tv. I had a collection with them from many years ago but wanted to look at reinstating service. They let me pay and reinstated my service. The CA sent me a letter they were deleting.

Id say go the reinstate route least youll have leverage that the acct is current and ur currently have service with it so it shod not be on ur report basically reinstatment is ur pfd confirmation

I agree. Plus, its a lot cheaper just to reinstate than it is to pay the full amount owed. If you are going to pay for TV service anyway, might as well do it through DirectTV

Reinstated with Direct TV and they said that to speed it up to call CA and tell that I'm reinstated with service, the collector pulled it up and said to give it until Monday and the report will be removed and that if it isn't to just contact the CRA and since I am no longer behind that they will have to deleat.

I'm waiting to see what my 33 point loss truly cost me when a bogus ca is removed.
