Hi, I'm C, and I don't have a Discover.

I figured I'd be more likely to find Discoverless members in this section. I'm rebuilding after a bankruptcy that *sigh* included Discover (and Amex, and Chase,and Citi, and BOA, egads). It's been two years. I did try. I got turned down and was told they needed to see a bit more rebuilding and history. Not sure if that means I'm blacklisted or if it will ever happen.

Going around the forums, there seems to be a Discover in every sig. But that can't be everyone. I hereby begin the "I don't have a Discover" support group.

I can't even get a fake Discover. I was about to try for a Sam's Club Discover but found that they're switching to MasterCard! Ugh!

I searched around for others but couldn't find any. So yeah. Support group for people with no Discover...I cordially invite the Discoverless among us.

(people who don't want one don't count)

If I was rebuilding, I'd probably focus on CU cards, and not worry too much about the prime rewards cards.

CU cards have several advantages, including generous CLs, low APRs, minimal fees, suitability for emergency use, and so on.

By CU I assume you mean credit union? I got turned down by my credit union for not making enough money and having too many student loans. Not making enough money--another problem that quite a few in this forum can't relate to. heh. Luckily it's not everyone.

lol I also do not have a Discover. I have been turned down twice, and once was when they finally sent me a "pre-qualified / pre-approval" letter. I might try again in a year, so we'll see. At this point, I might give up on them though. I'm sure I can get what they offer through other lenders anyway.

I'm sorry to hear that your credit union turned you down. At this point, perhaps a secured card or two will get you on your way to better cards, including Discover?

oh nooo...never.

Ever since I read someone saying secured cards look terrible on a credit report, I'm inclined to agree.

I'm SO mad that the Walmart and Sam's Club Discover thing is ending, and more mad when I called about upgrading my Walmart card and the lady just said there was no offer available for me to upgrade. It's so frustrating, I do feel like giving up.

I have quite a few credit cards but I do want a Discover eventually. And better credit cards.

Not everyone for sure. I have very very low income which makes my jaw drop when i see how much some people around here have to work with. All of my credit cards combined add up to what some here have as their lowest limits. Thankfully my BF brings home a lot more than me. Still we are a low income household but the bills always get paid.

I just got a discover card after working on my credit since 2005. I had a backslide in 2012 which is easy to do when you have little $ to work with.

My BF doesn't have a Discover card, in fact he doesn't have any credit cards yet lol

Keep at it and it will get better !!!

Yeah...I'm a single woman with a single income, around $15k a year. So it's mind-boggling when I see people here who make ten times that much.

You're lucky you have someone to help you out in life. Oh, and a Discover. Congrats.

Be proud that you are doing it all on your own. I kind of miss the whole "i did it all by myself" part of life.

I disagree that a secured card looks bad on your credit report. I had one, and that is what helped my credit grow. Also, there are some banks that have the option to unsecure after a year or so (Such as Bank of America) I understand your hesitation and discomfort with it though.

I noticed in your signature that you state you have too many cards to list, so perhaps a secured card would be a waste anyway. You really only need 3 cards revolving in order to generate the best score potentials. You also have decent credit scores, which will only go up if you're doing the right things!

I don't know how old all of your accounts are, how many inquiries you have or what might or might not be reporting on your credit bureaus but based on your signature, perhaps with 6 months of solid history you CAN qualify for a Discover. I hope that you do. Good luck to you!

Heh..the grass is always greener and all that. Believe me, I wouldn't be going it alone if I had any other option. But that's another story for another forum.

Yeah, I'm not comfortable having a secured card. Luckily I was able to qualify for three semidecent unsecured ones,so it's not necessary. Totally not comfortable with it, and also, can't afford it!

I do have quite a few cards. A few are absolutely awful (First Premier), and it would have been better to have nothing at all. I hope that in six months when all these inquiries matter less and my score bumps up a bit, I can retry for a Discover with different results.

I do hope a few people who are unable to get Discovers can chime in here, though...I really didn't create this thread just to vent solo.

Oh, if it matters, Discover did offer me the chance to apply with a joint applicant. Hopefully that means I'm close to qualifying without one? It's better than a flat out denial, no?

I wonder if it matters what cards you have already or how many. I noticed i couldn't get approved for certain cards until i got some credit limits raised on the cards i already had.

Hopefully someone comes along who knows. I am always up for learning more.

I have a friend who wants my help, she can't get appoved for anything. I mentioned my BF before, we apped for him and he was denied for some pretty basic cards. Neither one has any cards but there are other issues to be addressed first.

Um....this is really more about me (and others as well) not being able to get one, not going through the 3rd degree as to my reasons for wanting one.

Absolutely no secured cards. Someone here has already said they understand why I feel uncomfortable getting one, and I already have three rather nice unsecured ones, so no reason to do that. I worked hard to get my credit report clean so I could get GOOD cards. I don't need secured cards that a) I can't afford and b) look bad on a CR, regardless of what anyone says.

You're welcome. I'm the authorized user on one and I have one of my own. Neither report as a secured card, I think BOA reports as a secured card though.

discover offers secured card and it is the start building a relationship. I would try with 200 limit.
