That is the exact email I received from them. A legitimate company will not ask you to pay them with a greendot money pack. If this company cannot provide you details of what you're paying for before you fork over money, something's up.

Scam. They get your info off payday brokering sites posing as potential lender, then periodically check SSN's to see if they pop up owing a balance, then the scam begins. I almost paid them !

I just reicved the same e-mail this morning. I asked them to send me the paper work so that I could see where this loan had come from. They told me that under law 59 that the company could not see me that information. They said that I would be going to jail and would have to pay them $4000 and some change. But if I sent them $531 today they debt would be payed. But it went from $300 to $961 it might be more i am not sure. I was told that I would pay court cost and the lawer fee. They would not give me the name of the company or the date of this loan. I don't know if this is real or not but the loans that I have come out of my account when they are due.

This is a scam, do NOT send them any money! They make money off of people that don't investigate things further and just automatically pay what they ask.

One of my co-workers was contacted by them as well. The emails they sent her here at work were quite laughable. In one, they even provided a "case #" that they filed in court. She would have sent them money too if she hadn't asked me about it and I did research on them. The "case #" they provided isn't even something the court would provide.

ALWAYS, ask for verification or validation depending upon the situation. If a debt colletor will not send you a written notice or an address to send notices to, they are fake. Also be aware that certain scams use the names of actual debt collection companies, its always best to ask the name of the company and research them to find a number listed on a company website. Its way to easy these days to spoof a caller ID and appear legit.

The FDCPA violations within that letter for threatening action they dont intend or cannot take are manifiest.

It also is an initial communication with the consumer, which triggered their requirement to send formal dunnunig notice within 5 days thereafter,

Dunning notice must, in addition ot informing of validation rieghts, include the name of the currrent creditor and the amount of the current debt.

I presume they never sent dunning notice, which regardless of whether there are any other violations, constitues basis for notification of improper collection practices to the CFPB and/or your state AG. It would also be basis for your own civil action.
