how to find out the account numbers that have been charged off 4 years ago

Hi.

There are a few baddies on the credit reports that happened 4/5 years ago. I would like to get in touch with these credit companies/utilities companies so that either I can negotiate a payment plan or ask for GW deletion if the account has been paid when in collection. However I can no longer find out these old account numbers, and on the credit reports, the numbers only show partial, when i called the customer service, they dont have the info neither since the accounts are so far back.

So what is a good way to retrieve these account information?

Where are you getting the credit reports from? Usually pulling your reports directly from the bureaus themselves or through annualcreditreport.com will reveal enough of the account number for the CA to find you.

Well, if the accounts are so old the OC's don't have the account numbers - what good would it do you if you could somehow retrieve them? Seems like you're tilting at windmills. I don't quite see what you would accomplish by tracking down account numbers....Either you know they are yours or you think they are not yours, in which case you claim ID theft if they are not yours.

Some of these baddies sit there for 4 years already and since i paid them in full/partial, they show as Paid/collections. I didnt know such thing as PFD/GW when I made payments ( stupid me!!). If I can get these account numbers, I plan towrite GW/PFD letters so that hopefully i can get them off my CR. Since I no longer have these old statements, there is no way for these companies to locate me even if they are willing to do the deletion.

Seems to me if they can't find the accounts for you they would not be able to find them for the CRA's either...if you get the drift.

Sounds like you haven't contacted them yet? If so, companies have more ways besides an account number to pull you up. I bet they'd be able to find you.

Companies will often mothball old accounts.

Info may not be readily available to customer service reps, who have little incentive to dig into archival records, so will simply blow you off.

If the creditor's reporting still shows a balance, that indicates that they have not reported sale of the debt, so they may still own it.

Offering a PFD may cause them to dig a bit deeper into the cellar and find the account records.

I would send a PFD offer for unpaid debts that appear to still be owned by the OC, and see if they then locate the account info.

Experian credit report showes the whole account number . If you want you can Dispute an old address which would give you access to your whole report that way you can copy all the account numbers down and then proceed with disputing the old address .
