My daughter and I tried to pull her CR's, both the annual and MyFICO, and what we found really surprised us. She couldn't understand how her twin brother was getting credit around town and she couldn't. Her mother's name is on her CR and not her's. It's her SSN, but her mother's name and info. She even has one of her collections on my daughter's CR. I posted this here when we first found it and we were told to file a report with local law enforcement. My daughter refuses to do that. The CRA's haven't been any help either. Is there any info available thay will help us get her CR back in her name?

Send a copy of your daughter's SS card and ID, along with a copy of her CR that shows her personal information to the CRA. Highlight the incorrect information and show proof that is not the name that belongs to the SS #.

Send everything CMRRR.

Sidewinder,

My daughter is finally ready to try and resolve this matter. I just tried to run her reports again, and still no luck from TU and EX, but I do still have the copy of her annual from September. We did get responses back from TU and EX stating there wasn't enough data listed to generate a report, but I'm curious if the same problem exists with them as it does with EQ. I'm in the process of drafting a letter for her to send to the CRA's with her personal information and what little documentation she received from them. Would you or any of the other mods be willing to give it a sanity check before we send it out. Also, if there are any sample letters already drafted that you know of that I can simply edit and use, could you share one with me?

Another issue that may cause a problem is that her mother recently passed away a few months ago. Do you think this will cause additional problems getting her name off of my daughter's CR's? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Does she only have a report from EQ? Or does she have an older report from TU and EX as well?

Are there accounts on them that are not hers or is just her mother's personal information appearing under the personal information section?

Really need to know what is/isn't reporting. Is any of her own information reporting?

The only report she's been able to get is EQ, but that was her annual back in September 2008. She was never able to get an annual from TU or EX. Now she can't even buy one directly from each of the CRA's sites. What we found on the earlier CR from EQ, was that it was in fact her SSN being used, but it was under her mother's name. It even has a paid medical collection of her mother that can't be hers because she was only 15 at the time. I'm basically looking for some language I can use in a letter from her to the CRA's that can get her file back into her name and clean up her mother's collection. The only thing of my daughter's that I see that is actually her info on the CR with EQ, are a few hard inquiries for store credit cards which were denied, for the reason we now know. I have instructed her to not apply for anything else until this is resolved and it's driving her crazy because she wants to start her own credit history but cannot. Any help or thoughts would really be appreciated. She has turned out to be a very responsible young woman, but this is really holding her back. Thanks!!!

I would write each CRA and include a copy of DL, SS card, and a recent utility bill.

For EQ, I would include a copy of the recent report and highlight all the incorrect information and send a letter explaining the situation.

For EX and TU, I would write a letter stating that she recently tried to get a credit report and could not. She did manage to obtain one from EQ and found many errors. She is including proof of her identity and would like a copy of her free annual report that is available to her under FACTA.

What reasons did EX and TU give for not giving her a copy?

They basically said there wasn't enough information/history to provide a report. Even if that were the case that they didn't have a credit history, they should be able to still show the hard inquiries and collection. The collection was through NCO and I know from personal experience with them that they report to all three CRA's.

We'll send each CRA a letter verifying that they each have the correct ID information for her SSN and ask them to provide a copy of her CR's so she can verify it for herself. For the letter to EQ, we'll also initiate a dispute for her mother's collection activity during the timeframe my daughter was still a minor. We do have that report. We'll need to wait for the TU and EX reports to see if she has any other work to do on them. Hopefully they'll send her something that she can review, even though there's no apparent scoreable data. I'll let you know what we find out.

Thanks for all your help.

With FICO, you can't get a score if you don't meet the minimum score requirements and FICO won't even provide a report when there is not enough data to score.

However, you should still be able to get them from the CRA directly, unless there really is nothing on them.

If this is the case, when you send the letter to TU and EX, they should respond with a letter stating she has no file with them.

HI!

Your daughter needs to file a police report eventhough her mother passed away, this shows the credit bureau proof of theft, and also to get a death certificate sent along with your daughter's ID.

Here's the email I personally use for Transunion Fraud Dept -Fraud Victims Assistance Dept, Jan [edited] is the supervisor ( fvad@transunion.com), since I myself became a victim of fraud and been dealing with the high managers in the departments. Also for Equifax - Executive Customer Service, Gail [edited] (gail[edited]@equifax.com or dinah[edited]@equifax.com) really helped my case of getting items resolved as my file was forwarded to this office of the CEO. Get Police report done and have it notorized by a notary and a FTC affidavit of forgery as notorized - (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/resources/forms/affidavit.pdf)

really helps these up.

Also your daughter needs to mailed/fax copies of the ID and SSN to the 3 credit bureaus with certified mail (always) and send to the main office address not the P.O Boxes, and the creditor's if any. It can be hard but it will help your daughter.. Good Luck

Edited to remove personal information.
We received her responses back from TU and EQ and both came back showing her reports in her name and no derogatory information. Still no credit history, bit it's at least a clean slate to start with. We're still waiting to hear from EX. Hopefully they'll come back to her with a clean report as well. Then all we have to do is to start developing a credit history for her. She is a member of my credit union and I suggested that she (and I) talk to the manager there about establishing a credit card account through them. I told her she may have to start out with a secured account, but she has no problem with that since it will be a move in the right direction. We'll let you know what we hear from EX.

That didn't take long. We received the letter from EX today, actually two letters, plus another letter from both EQ and TU. The first letter from EX was cleaning her report and putting her name on it. They even cleared off the inquiries from where she was denied credit because of the mistake. The other letters were to inform her that a security/fraud alert was placed on all three of her CR's for 90 days. She now has a squeaky clean slate, no history, but we can work on that. As a matter of fact, I spoke to our CU manager today, and they have a program for young people just starting out that helps them develop a credit history. It's only with EQ, but it's a start and there's no hard credit inquiry required. Yes, it's a secured loan. They don't have secured CC's, but said that they would look into issuing her one after she finishes this secured loan in about six months. This WILL report to all three CRA's. Without a doubt, she is very excited to have this over with.

Before you can apply/open new accounts, I believe you'll have to have that FA removed.

I don't think it will matter for the secure loan since there won't be a credit check per the manager at the CU. I'll have to co-sign for her, but her own money will be used for the loan. There won't be a credit check on mine either, so I won't take a hit. As for any new accounts that do pull during a FA, the way it was explained to me was that the lender would get the FA during the pull and have to verify the identity of the person taking out the loan, and I believe they would also have to call whichever CRA they pull from as well. Maybe that's where the FA gets a temporary lift. Is this what you're telling me? Let me know. Thanks!!!
