I Recieved a collection notice from AFNI regarding an old Bell South account who is now AT&T. They offered me a settlement for the amount of $64.01, the orignal amount owed is $128.01. I contacted AFNI and asked them for a PFD and I will pay the balance in full but, the rep. said the only way they could do a PFD is if they had received return mail notices from my address and I did'nt get the collection notices from them. My question is how do I proceed now? I told them I just would pay the amount in full so it would report balance paid in full instead of settled in full. Then I would submitt GW randomly hoping they will see how determined I am to get this removed for my reports. Please help!

Never ever never call a CA. Never.

What is the DOFD? AFNI is notorious for buying old debt past DOFD and SOL.

The collector does not know what she is talking about. Just go ahead and send a letter to their company requesting PFD. Thats probably the most lousisest excuse for not accepting a PFD I've heard.

I would send a written PFD. Also, if you check out google and the BBB's website, you will find some email addresses for them and you can email a PFD too.

So, I only need to send gw letters and pfd letters? Do you think I can get this removed still, even though I contacted them by phone?

Yes, only if they accept the PFD. They have already reported your account so that damage is done and it cannot get any worse. At this time, the ball is in your court to play business with them. If you were to PIF, they will just report your account as pay in full. But rather than that, lets try to get the whole account deleted from your report. So try sending a letter requesting PFD or have an AFNI rep fax you a statement asserting the stipulation.

Just write a letter requesting a pay for delete. If that does not work, you can always send a secure feedback on their website.

I just dealt with them a couple weeks ago on a debt they were trying to collect on from 1998 that they said I owed. I called them up and talked to a rep and told them I wanted them to prove it was my debt. He said they would do an investigation and let me know. A week later I got a letter in the mail stating that they would stop trying to collect and delete (it wasn't on my report). I had actually called them for a new collection they had just put on my reports. I know I shouldn't have done it over the phone but I was in a bind because I'm in the middle of a mortgage refi and couldn't wait for snail mail. I paid over the phone and they deleted.

I just sent you a PM with an email address for AFNI - I suggest you ask them to validate first, and confirmaiton in email that they will delete upon payment.

Hi, I had this on my credit about three months ago. They were collecting for Bellsouth. I know I didn't owe bellsouth this money therefore i sent the collection agency a letter asking for a statement or something. i aslo disputed. It was two months ago, I got a letter from AFNI, they will report to the credit bureau and request to have it removed. When I pulled my FICO from this site the other day, they weren't anywhere on my credit.

Ditto to demed's suggestion of DVing. I too had AFNI and sent them PFD after PFD with no success. Then I DV'd them and they responded to a balance that seemed OK. I requested info from the OC (Verizon) and realized that the two balances didn't match and were off by about $40 or so. So, I sent a very strongly worded e-mail to every e-mail address I could get my hands on and an officer responded after a couple days saying they couldn't account for the their balance (I told them the OC sent info and theirs didn't match; never provided them the info either). Then they deleted within a couple days.

DVs go a long way. BTW, their balance was smaller than the OCs.

i sent 2 PFD letters to AFNI and got no response so i decided to call and see what the deal was. the rep told me the same thing about they'll only delete if they got returned mail. i needed to do something with that account. i owed $834 for a sprint account and settled for half. after they updated my report as settled i disputed it and they chose not to respond so it got deleted. i guess all they cared about was getting their money. only paid half and it got deleted. works for me

I just received a collection placed on my cr from AFNI. I have begun reading the post that are listed here and came across yours. Were you able to get them to remove the collection from your credit reports? My amount is small but I want to get the collection removed from my reports. The scores dropped, bummer. If you got it removed could you tell me how you did it?
