I would like to try to apply with capital one, if possible. I entered my info to see if I prequalify and it said "we couldn't match your records to a card offer. But based on your answers, you make like these cards"..one was a platinum and a few others. And when you click on the cards they all say good for average credit. In my answers I submitted I put a needed one rebuilding. Not sure if that changed anything. Should I apply? Is this considered a "hard pull". I only have a small $300 limit one with Credit One and I need another..or 2, reporting. I had a capital one that was burned in BK. it ha a $500limit and I was current when I filed, after catching up from a couple late pyts. Should I apply? I'm not sure who they pull. Equifax score is 620, Trans is 568 and Experian is 556.

If you need the card to rebuild, then why are you so concerned about an inquiry? You should have two to four tradelines to have a good base on which to build a robust credit profile ... and rebuilding is a long-term, ongoing activity.

I personally would wait a bit and bring the scores up some to have a better chance at getting in.

When i checked the prequalifying site, it told me the exact thing. i then applied for the Quicksilver One and was approved. Then after i started reading the boards i applied again a few days later and got the Journey. Both small limits of course. But you have to start somewhere

I just want to point out that the way you type your adress matters. I remember when I didn't put TH at the end of my street name, that they couldn't find an offer for me. Double check it on your credit report. Even credit karma tells you the addresses on file. what Captial one card do you have now?

If denail is your main concern, then perhaps you might turn your attention to the pre-qual letters you may receive in the mail.

If any such unsolicited offer for credit was based on the creditor having obtained your name from a listing provided by the CRA, that offer for credit becomes a :"firm offer" under the FCRA that must be honored if you apply and you are then found to continue to meet the criteria used by the creditor to obtain the listing from the CRA.

That pre-screening done by the CRA can make an offer firm, whereas the web sites and other pre-qual procedures carry no firm offer.

Are you currently opted-in?

I almost just applied for the quicksilver Cap One card, but I read in the disclosure that you shouldn't apply if not discharged yet and BK still unresolved. So of course I freaked and just said forget it. I'm about 3 weeks from being discharged. Anyone get a card with them before being discharged?

I would wait the 3 weeks until your bankrupcty is discharged and updates on your reports to being discharged and apply for the Capital One Secured Card, unless at that time the prequal on their site offers you something better. A secured card will be just as good for your credit rebuilding as an unsecured would be and it can also get your foot in the door to get a better card from them later. Hang in there, better days are coming.
