Dear Madam or Sir,

I am writing you this letter in hopes that you can help me with a concern I have with a delinquent account. Please allow me to explain the circumstances of my request. In February of 2011 I moved to a new area for a new job. Not long after getting settled in to this job I was temporarily without work. Because this was a job in the railroad industry on the railroad retirement system and I had not completed a year of service and I had voluntarily left my previous job of 8 years, there was no type of unemployment compensation available for me. What had started as a dream job in a new area was quickly turning into a nightmare. I had depleted the majority of my savings moving to the new area for the job and I was relying upon my good credit to get me through the move and “settling in” process. I became unemployed and after depleting the rest of my savings to pay bills I had no choice but to forego payments to my credit obligations in favor of maintain a residence. Fast forward several years I am back to full time employment and looking to make whole all of the creditors who had loaned me money prior to my financial woes.

My credit report shows that I owe your company $979.I do not have a complete account number but this is listed on my report 604578101063****. I am in no way disputing this debt. In my attempt to satisfy this debt I have contacted your company and was forwarded to Nationwide Credit INC. I have tried unsuccessfully to contact this collection company by phone, leaving several messages, as well as through their website. I would like to pay this debt in full. I hope that you could possibly recall this debt from this collection company and allow me to pay you in full.

Would it be possible for you to Update this account to “paid closed by consumer” removing indication of the charge off or possibly remove this trade line from Trans Union, Equifax and Experian altogether? I understand you are under no obligation to do any of this. I am hoping that you could be kind and generous enough to help me recover from hard times and move forward. I look forward to doing business with you again in the future.

Thank you for your time and consideration

Sounds fine, a bit formal, but fine. I'd remove the the word "delinquent" and just stick with account - a dead horse is a dead horse, no need to continue beating it. I'd also remove any statement confirming and/or admitting to the debt - it's not a big deal, and I understand why you included it, wanting to seem up front and taking responsibility, but this may be a long process, and while I don't particularly like baseless claims of dispute to the CRA, you never know what you may need to do in the future and by admitting the debt is yours, indeed in writing, you will take this option off the table indefinitely. You may never do it but it's good to have options.

And there simply is no need for it, great, you want to take responsibility, then do a PFD and pay your debts as agreed now and in the future, but there is no need to admit to it. What if you wanted to apply for something, anything, that would requiring them pulling your report and the creditor takes your letter, adds a comment to the file stating you admitted in writing that you indeed did not pay a debt as agreed - it may be a road block to the application. What would that be? I don't know, that's what I meant by ensuring you have all the options you need. Perhaps the creditor has a policy that does not allow a PFD if the account holder admits fault - you just don't know. In the end, I do not see you gaining anything by admitting the debt is yours however I do see the potential of losing a number of things if you do admit to it. It's simple really.

Ill also add when sending PFD offers you would not sign the letter either as there have been cases of forgery on new promises to pay leading to full boat judgment. CAs & JDBs are crooks they use any tactic to their advantage and have no morals in collecting debts in illegal ways, they prey on the uninformed.

Ok, I get it now, thank you for the advice. I plan on paying in full so I presume they'd have no course for a judgment and renewing the statute of limitations would have no effect.

I greatly appreciate the advice on not signing.
I will remove the the "admission of guilt"
Thank you both very much for your help!

any further suggestions after this revision?

Dear Madam or Sir,

Firstly, thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read my letter. I am writing you this letter in hopes that you can help me with a concern I have with an account with your company. Please allow me to explain the circumstances of my request. In February of 2011 I moved to a new area for a new job. Not long after getting settled in to this job I was temporarily without work. Because this was a job in the railroad industry on the railroad retirement system and I had not completed a year of service, as well as the fact that I had voluntarily left my previous job, there was no type of unemployment compensation available for me. What had started as a dream job in a new area was quickly turning into a nightmare. I had depleted the majority of my savings moving to the new area for the job and I was relying upon my good credit to get me through the move and “settling in” process. I then became unemployed and after depleting the rest of my savings to pay bills I had no choice but to forego payments to many of my credit obligations in favor of maintaining a residence. Fast forward several years I am back to full time employment and looking to make whole all of the creditors who had loaned me money prior to my financial woes.

My credit report shows that I owe your company $979. I do not have a complete account number but this is listed on my report 604578101063****.

Would it be possible for you to remove this trade line from Trans Union, Equifax and Experian altogether? I understand you are under no obligation to do any of this. I am hoping that you could be kind and generous enough to help me recover from hard times and move forward. I look forward to doing business with you again in the future.

Thank you again for your time and consideration
