As metioned, follow up with the courts and make certain that they call the court date off or that you don't need to appear.

Don't just take the lawyer's word.

I know I haven't been here in a while but things have been going pretty well with me cleaning up my credit report and being able to get credit. Just on Sunday I was served with a summons from an old HSBC acct from RAB performance for 1572.00. I had 30 days to answer the summons, but thanx to the knowledge that I recieved here on these fico forums and thanx to God I was quick on my feet. Monday morning I called the law firm that was suing me, to see what I could do, and they asked me what could I propose, and luckily I was able to aquire 800.00L to pay up front and pay 400.00 in January. I was able to settle for less than the original amt. The lawyer contacted the court and told them once they (the law firm) recieved the last payment and I recieved my reciept saying that the debt ws paid that everything will be thrown out. Thanx to you guys I was able to get out of a of judgement which could have really ruined my score which has creeped up a whole lot and has allowed me to aquire more credit.

THANX AGAIN MYFICO FRIENDS YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!!!!

Good job working out that settlement to avoid the judgment! It sounds like the law firm basically got your case adjourned to give you time to pay up--so that's good. Be sure to follow the agreement (as you know).

My advice, however, is to make sure that you are squared away with the court. Most of the law firms that do this kind of work have a lot of volume and really do the work by assembly line. Not that they necessarily are out to make things hard(er) on you, but it is possible to fall through the cracks. Verify with the court that you do not need to appear instead of relying on the law firm's representation of what transpired in that conversation.

Or maybe all of your payments will be in before your court date and I've misunderstood? The main thing is that regardless of what the attorneys tell you, you have to do what the court says.

Congrats on NOT having a public record!!
