How long before public records and delinquent accounts remove themselves from a credit report? Also, has anyone tried to remove inquiries by writing letters to the companies to have them removed? Any success?

7 years from DOFD (date of first delinquency). Sometimes sooner depending on the state (for example I'm in NY and paid collections/judgments fall off after 5 years).

I wouldn't try to delete inquiries.

Thank you for replying. I think it is 5 years for my state also but I am not totally sure. Why do you suggest not asking to remove inquiries?

Thank you for reminding me. When I started out (almost two years ago), I was definitely sprinting...applying for everything and anything because I was so excited to have credit again. I have a hard time with patience but I try to remind myself how much lower my limits were when I started.

I have many inquiries and it is hindering acceptance of new lines of credit. If a credit report lists a collection as "opened on" 'May 2010' then that means in June 2017 is when it should be removed? I have two public records. One is from 2009 and one from 2010. Both satisfied 4+ years ago. Are you saying I should request to remove those? If so, how and when? Otherwise I do have 3 collection accounts as well. Should I contact someone about removing those as well? One is from 2007 and one from 2009 as well as one from 2010. I have worked really hard for the past two years on building my credit and my last missed payment was 4.2 years ago.

For me, this was the date the judge entered the judgement in court for me. And for me, those judgements came off 7 years later.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but for collections, I believe the "opened on" date is when the CA was assigned or bought that account from the OC or another CA. This is not the DOFD afaik, which is the important date you need to know when to request EE. Generally speaking for me, the opened on date was usually 2-6 months after my DOFD.

You can get the DOFD's(if you dont know them) for free from annualcreditreport. You get 1 report per year from that website.

As far as the public records removals, it depends on what type they are, and what the law is in your area of the court they came from. Some courts/states allow removal after satisfaction. I don't know about tax liens.

Some states allow this others dont you will need to check you states laws governing the Civil Court system as to the reasons a judgment can be vacated.

Tax Liens - You would need to get the reporting entity to withdraw the lien after its been paid for it to be removed from your CR.

Bankruptcy- This one runs till CRTP

So is this the point where I stop getting excited thinking my BK13 will be gone before April 1 with early exclusion? I swear I've seen reports of people with BK's deleted early.

Early exclusion would still apply. I said that to indicate that there is nothing to be done like you can do with judgments & Tax Liens.

Thank you for all the help! I believe my FIRST step is going to be going to the court to file a motion. I wonder if it would be one motion per PR? The judgments were from credit cards that have been paid in full for the past few years. None of my old debt is outstanding. It has all been paid. Let me know if I missed anything and if going to the court isn't the best first step.
