DW has medical bill she had been making payments on since Jan when services were "rendered". Her last payment was made on 3/26/08 and got a statement saying Insufficient payment amount. She forgot to go by and make a payment in April so we got a letter looking exactly like the hospital bill but at the top said NCO Financial. She called the hospital and spoke to a rep that said the account was never set up on a "payment plan" until today and that the letters from NCO would stop as long as she didnt default. This is not reported to cra's yet but do we need to send anything to NCO since a payment plan has been set up with the hospital?

MCE

Medical collections are handled different then other debts!

NO do not contact NCO.........Let the hosp. handle them! I would also get the dept. phone # (x-ray or other dept. that might send their own bills) call them & see if they have any outstanding bills.

If you receive any other letters from NCO about other debts...They must also inform you of the name and address of the creditor!!!

Always try & work with the hosp.or the provider before doing anything with a CA. Know what your SOL is as some HIPAA letters only deal with past SOL.
