Question about a file removed

So I got a letter in the mail from Midland Credit Management stating a file has been removed and I have no longer financial obligation to the account. Says they have contacted all 3 credit bureau to delete. It's been a week and have not seen a update on cct. How should I proceed? I am very anxious about this.

Also. Last baddie that came off still showed the original creditor in my negative files. Can they be removed also since the collection did it or?

It can take a couple of weeks (the CRAs will tell you longer) for it update. Hang on to your letter. BTW, does it state that you are no longer obligated to that debt, or to the CA? (there is a difference, the CA can't really tell you that you're not obligated to the debt, unless they own it).

It depends on why the baddie came off. I'm assuming you mean that a collection account being reported by a CA was removed. This in no way obligates the OC to remove the baddie, unless the OC was reporting it inaccurately, and then they only need to correct the info. It should disappear from your reports about 7.5 years from the DOFD.

The letter states "You have no further financial obligation regarding this account"

I would imagine that is in reference to their account. If you notice, they give them a different account # and report as such. I'm only bringing this up so that you can make sure, because, if that is the case, when they hand it back to the OC, the OC can place it with a different CA.

Another reason this is important is that, if you really are obligated to this debt, then now is your chance to work with the OC on an agreement to take care of it. You offer to pay them for them not placing it with a CA again.

IF the CA actually owned the debt (purchased it from the OC), the OC's tradeline can still remain on your report for the 7.5 years from the DOFD.

(it would be helpful if we knew who owned the debt (CA or OC), how much, and what the DOFD is?)

Capital one. $2700. Due to fall off in March of 2016. It's been with midland since day one of collection

Discharge of a debt, be it by way of payment, cancellation, or BK, does not negate prior reporting of accunt activity, and if it is still accurate, is not required to be deleted.

Just to be sure, are we talking about the same debt? I mean, is the debt from Captial One what you're referring to in both of the above?

(sorry, it occured to me that they may not be the same 'baddies' after reading this again... however, the advice given would still be the same)

I am reading it to mean they own the debt and will not pursue it further, as in waving the white flag.

I have had CA accounts that have been resold and never had a letter worded like that one. It would just say, sold to another CA and list the new one.

ETA: I would give it at least a couple weeks to show up. I am sure they are not excited about having to give up and to delete the account. But definitely KEEP that letter! If it were mine, I would scan it into my computer and keep it filed away, make a xerox copy and file it in a separate place, and file the original. I am an IT guy that has had to keep tape backups of important files and databases, and we had a method of storing archived copies off premise, in case of a building problem at our site. So I like to be safe.

I personally do think you are in the clear with it.

Sorry to keep adding on -

I think you are in the clear with the debt that was purchased by Midland and they will delete from all of your CRs.

You will still have the CO from the OC. But one baddie is better than two.

ETA: rats! I keep thinking of new things here. Please let us know how it turns out.

How were you able to have them send you a letter stating that your account is being deleted from cra's and that you are no longer financially obligated?

Not sure. I sent a pfd letter back in march. They declined. 6 months later I get that letter lol
