If this was covered under an insurance payment, pay no one. You need to find out why this office wasn't paid. Did the insurance fail to pay them, or did the office fail to request reimbursement?

I was involved in an accident and needed to get X-rays done. And the bill should have been part of my settlement but somehow was not included....fast fwd...I had this collection show up on my report and my score took a dive. I was wondering if I pay the original creditor and they relay to the collection agency that it has been paid; will it be removed from my cr? Or should I call the collection agency and ask to pay in full for delete? I was doing so good and this shows up ( a real downer )...I spoke to the original creditor and they tried contacting the other insurance company but they never replied to them. Please help..so frustrated right now.

First find out who owns the debt. Collections are assigned to a CA or sold to a CA.

If a debt is assigned to a CA, the OC still owns the debt. I would suggest contacting the OC, see if they would accept payment and pull back the debt from the CA.

Now if the debt was sold to the CA, then you would have to deal with the CA. But as you said, try a PFD letter.

Either way, remember to get things in writing before paying.

Good Luck to you.

Sorry I never received an alert about responses.... So I called the OC and asked if I could PIF for delete and they said they could not do anything but report to the CA that it has been paid. Does this mean that they still own the debt? Evidently this was left out of my settlement (bill arrived later). What are the chances the CA will remove this from my report if I pay either way? Should I pay OC then dispute with bureau that this has already been paid with the OC and ask for it to be removed? Have no clue what to do.
