I just want to drop a note on this board to say thank you to those who provide excellent advice and share their stories on here and to give a word of encouragement to those who think they are never going to be able repair their credit problems. My wife and I used the advice of this board to make major improvements to our credit and are now on the verge of buying our first home.

In May 2014 I started using myFICO to monitor my Experian credit score - it was 574. My wife's was 524. I had defaulted student loans, unpaid medical collections, and lots of late payments on my few revolving credit accounts. My wife had defaulted student loans, a bankruptcy, a few collections, and lots of late payments on a few revolving credit accounts.

Since then between us we've opened 2 secure credit cards, 8 unsecured credit accounts (bank and store), rehabbed our student loans (and my wife was able to get $17,500 of loans forgiven as a teacher), successfully DV'd several collections, paid a remaining collection, financed a new car, and patiently waited for some collections and her bankruptcy to fall off our credit reports.

As of right now, my scores are EQ692, TU720, EX713; her scores are EQ700, TU720, EX697.

This week we were pre-approved for "whatever we want" (in the words of our loan officer) for a VA home loan. Realistically, we are about to buy a home in the range of $200,000 on the islands east of Savannah, GA. I'm still "working the system" to eke out a few more Equifax credit score points to get into a lower interest rate bracket.

All of that said, this forum and the wealth of information contained here and the success stories we read about from other users, is the reason we are about to achieve our dreams.

So, thank you, and you can do it!
