I have a collection on my reports from Advanced Collection. It is for an old apartment unit and is a very low amount. I called the apartment complex to speak with the property manager as I am unaware of what this is for and never received a call back. I've tried contacting the management company for the apartment complex and all the information I could find online is inaccurate (phone numbers/email addresses don't work). I want to get this off my reports as soon as possible.

Should I send a DV to the CRAs or send my letter to the CA? Has anyone had any experience with this particular CA?

The CRAs are not involved in requests for debt validation, They are a debt collection practices matter that are sent directly to the debt collector.

Some states now have more comprehensive forms of debt validation requests, such as TX, NY, and CA.

The federal process under the FDCPA has a timeliness requirment of within 30 days of their initial collection (dunning) notice, while state versions may not.

When did they send dunning notice, and what is your state of residence?

If they did not send dunning notice, then any DV that you send will still be timely, meaning that it will impose an automatic cease collection bar on the debt collector, which will remain in effect until sich time as they choose to send debt validation.

There is no required response or response time, so they could choose to delay any verification, but you will at least prevent further calls and letters until they do validatte.
