Filed a CFPB complaint against Equifax. They responded saying "Equifax has reviewed the complaint and its records. Equifax did not receive any additional communications from the consumer during the review of the complaint. No follow up actions are required in further response to the complaint." However, the CFPB says they will respond again within 60 days. They never contacted me so I don't know what they mean by not receiving additional communications. I attached 4 documents to the complaint that the CFPB said they forwarded. My report now says disputed, reinvestigation in progress. Any advice?

Is there current debt collection activity by a debt collector?

Stated differently, regardless of credit report formatting, do you have a legitimate debt under collection?

It is a bit unclear as to what they are being asked to investigate.....

Yes there is an open collection with other errors. However they said they're not reporting as closed. So i feel Equifax is misrepresenting the debt if their report shows I have no collections yet I have an open collection under closed accounts that is updating monthly. From posts I've read of yours, a closed collection means authority has been terminated or something similar, no?

Those are all asserted inaccuracies that (1) should first be handled by way of dispute, (2) would be correctible if in fact inaccurate, and not require deletion of the entire collection.

Have you disputed the accuracy prior to filing a complaint with the CFPB for violation of the provisions of the FCRA for correction of inaccuracies (i.e., following the dispute process)?

Yes. Came back verified so I went to the CFPB. They now show disputed, reinvestigation in process but I'm confused as to whether they are actually investigating due to their CFPB response. On a side note, this is the first time I've ever had items marked as disputed. Whether I disputed with the furnisher or CRA, no one has ever marked anything as disputed.

A complaint filed with teh CFPB is not a dispute, which is filed with either the CRA or the creditor.

It is an assertion of some violation of the FCRA, and a request for their review.

I would suggest calling the CFPB and inquring as to whether they noticed the CRA of a "dispute."

You appear to have both a confusing complaint and a confusing response to that complaint.

Spoke to the CFPB, they said they did not notice the CRA of a dispute, they merely forwarded my complaint and attachments to them for their review and had no other interaction or involvement at this point . Not really sure how to proceed.
