I slayed the dragon and got 2 accounts deleted! They shot down a BBB complaint and 2 CFPB complaints. They even mailed me packets of statements from the OC which was a little scary to be honest. After they shot down my last CFPB complaint, I immediately filed another BBB and CFPB complaint. I also filed CFPB complaints against each CRA, which they forwarded back to PRA as disputes. They responded to my CFPB complaint saying:

In response to your complaint, Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC ("PRA") closed the accounts and requested that the consumer reporting agencies remove our tradeline for the PRA accounts ending in XXXX and XXXX from their credit reporting.

These were my last baddies on EQ and EX, I have 1 on TU but I already know how I will tackle it. It will be deleted before the month is over. It feels so good, can't wait to see the score jump, I've been stuck about 680 forever. I started last summer with 10-15 baddies and like a 530.

Just got wifes only baddie removed 2 months ago, discover then gave her 4k CLI and now her score is 750. She wants to app spree but we only like the BCP. We're planning on buying another house and car this year and we should both be at least 750. Can't wait.

This board taught me everything I know. My advice is to study, make a list of errors, and file separate complaints for each issue. Eventually they will cave. I started with long complaints listing a plethora of issues but have found better success this way. Also quote which section of law they are violating, it seems to help. Sorry for such a long string of rambling posts. Any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks! On their website they state they never sell their accounts and I've heard that echoed on the board before. Maybe I shod screenshot their website just in case!

Even if there website says they don't sell accounts doesn't mean they can't.

They're definitely free to do as they please, but if they explicitly state in their own marketing materials that they don't do something, and then go and do exactly that, the risk exposure is far greater than the amount of my accounts. It would be easier to attack that than it was for me to get them deleted. I'm not gonna worry about it or lose any sleep over it.

They were also ordred by the CFPB when they got in trouble a few years back that they can't sell their accounts if I remember correctly.

Donny you are correct. From the CFPB website:

The CFPB has ordered the companies to overhaul their debt collection and litigation practices and to stop reselling debts to third parties.

can you say why did they delete? was it paid or unpaid? what were they in violation of? They are also my last baddie and they show up as opened type in my report, they only show up on my transunion. any help you can offer as far as your complaint wtih the bbb and cfpb please feel free to message me.

They were both unpaid. They deleted because they failed to notify the CRAs that I had disputed the accounts( violation of FCRA 623(a)(3)), yet they continued to pull my credit and report monthly. I tried disputing the way it was reporting but they would just validate and blame the CRAs. This lead me to file complaints against the CRAs too. They were gonna go one way or another.

I read on here another member had them deleted for failing to notify the CRAs of their dispute so I checked my reports for 2 months after disputing. Sure enough they were reporting monthly but no dispute comment. I've never had a TL show disputed, I didn't even know that was a legal requirement until this board.

I'm curious OP -- I also have letters of deletion from PRA. Have yours gone from your reports yet? Mine have not as of today.

Do you know if collection agencies can transferred debts back to OC? Midland agreed to delete my debt ( charged off was march 2015) from credit reports but my fico alerted me earlier that my OC had updated it information as "bad debt/transferred/ sold. Charged off". Does it means that they sold it to another collector since midland could not collect?

A debt collector can obtain collection authority in one of two ways.

They can merely have assigned authority to collect on behalf of another who still owns the debt, or they can purchase the debt.

Creditors rarely re-purchase a bad debt that they have sold to a debt collector. They sell, on an average, for only pennies on the dollar, and rarely will repurchase and thus re-assume the collection headache.

If a debt is "returned" to an OC, in all liklihood, they never sold it to anyone. They merely terminated their assignment of collection authority.

Termination of collection authority on an unpaid debt is basis, under CRA reporting policy, for deletion of the collection.
