Capital One Removed Lates!

I had two lates from my CapOne card from last summer. After reading some of the advice on the forum, I thought why not contact them to see if anything can be done. My situation was that I was truly late, two months in a row, both 30-days. It was due to some family issues at the time, which I was prepared to explain to them to see if they could be removed as a goodwill gesture. (I've otherwise always been on time and was recently approved for a QS Card). I called the standard 800-number and explained that I was seeking a goodwill removal of the late payments, and without having to explain the circumstances regarding the situation, the CSR simply put me on hold for a few minutes before returning and saying that any lates within the past 18 months would be removed! I was stunned at how customer-centric the process was. They gave me a confirmation number and then told me it would take 1-2 business days to update all three CBs and that they should update the records within one week. Unreal. To anyone who is considering giving a recon a shot over past late payments, I would encourage you to do so!

I wonder if this would work for a cap 1 / Best Buy card that was sold to citi. The lates were from 6.5 yrs ago. Would I call cap 1 or citi since cap 1 owned it at the time?

Keejarider, reach out to Citi if they're the ones that own it. CapOne would likely not be able to do anything for you. Are you fighting the legitimacy of the lates or are you looking for a goodwill dismissal?

Tried giving Cap1 a call to remove lates to no success. Got the typical "can only report accurate information to the credit bureaus" response

Maybe you got lucky with the rep you spoke with?

I'm sorry to hear that z8achoc18. The only thing that might've affected it would be that I had already filed a formal dispute with the CBs a couple weeks back. It was in progress at the time. I would've thought it would count against me when asking for a goodwill dismissal, which is why I didn't mention it. Were your late payments within the past 18 mos? That's as far as the CSR could go back for me.

It does look like you have some Prime Cards though, so it must not be too bad
