PSA: Requesting CLI with Barclaycard gave me a hard inquiry

Maybe it's just something I wasn't aware of before... or maybe different cards do it differently. I've received several automatic Credit Limit Increases (CLIs)... and then recently I requested CLIs from 3 of my cards. One approved instantly and just made my limit bigger. The second one was CapOne secured and sent me a message saying they dont offer CLI increases on-demand, but they sometimes automatically increase your credit line every 6 months. (its true, they bumped it up from 1300 to 1600 a few months ago)

Okay, well I need to make a large purchase that's about 200$ over my credit limit. I don't want to use cash because the pointtttsss.

So, I logged into my BarclayCard and hit the request credit limit increase, put in my info... and sent it off. Three minutes later all my credit monitoring alerts started going off. They immediately ran a hard inquiry on me! **bleep**! it was my 6th one and my score tanked 22 points....

Is this something that typically happens when you apply for a CLI?

Indeed, Barclay will hard pull your file for a CLI request through the account management portal. However, it is also known that you may be able to call in for a lower APR and may be offered a soft pull CLI.

I don't think the inquiry tanked your score 22 points.

What was the response the computer generated when you requested the CLI?

No. It's always a HP when you request a CLI online with Barclays AFAIK.

That's one of the reasons that I dislike them
