topic Collections question... in Rebuilding Your Credit

I currently have a collection on my CR for $73 from an unpaid Cable bill after I had moved that I didn't know about. After looking at my credit report I saw:

The collection agency "Crd Prt Asso" was hired to collect a debt of $73

After doing some due diligence I found out that this is (CPA) Credit Protection Association. I have read very bad reviews about this company and they currently have a BBB score of "F". I did notice that the main office is located like a mile down the road from where I live. I want to wite them a GW letter to try and get the baddie off my report. Is there much of a sucess rate in getting a collection off? Maybe I'll walk my butt in to the office and hand it in...that might be a bad idea though

More info please, Purdue. When did the cable bill go bad? I don't remember all of the details of when you moved, etc. What state was that? What's that state's SOL as well as your current state's SOL? What about tolling from that state? Have you contacted that cable company to see if they will pull the account back?

I guess I failed to mention that I had paid the $73. Here are the relevant details:

Collection agency: Crd Prt Asso

Original balance: $73

Current balance: $0

Status: Not Reported

Date assigned: Sep 12, 2005

Date reported: May 27, 2006

Date last active: Not Reported

Date paid: Not Reported

Date closed: May 27, 2006

The account was for Indiana (SOL 6 years). I now live in Texas (SOL 4 years). Since I already paid, this wouldn't matter right? I was just inquiring whether a GW letter usually works in cases of a paid collection. I assume I send it to the collections agency rather than to the cable company.

Thanks.

Yes, send the GW letter to the company reporting. In this case, the CA.
