People's Gas (OC) new collection through CA Credit Protection Associates (CPA)

This is my last collection on my CRAs that popped up this year for some gas bill from many years ago. $750ish. It's with a CA now but I did call the OC and they said I can pay them.

What's the next step here? Call the OC and ask them to pull the collection back from the CA, correct? The last thing I want to do is pay the OC and have them tell the CA to update it to paid and then have to deal with GW to get it removed.

If you call the OC and ask them to terminate collection authority, make sure that is done BEFORE you pay. Otherwise, all the CA is required to do is to update the account to paid with a zero balance.

Yep, calling OC tomorrow to tell them to claw it back.

Also saw on CB the letter to write to the CAs to demand removal of their CRA reporting after paying the OC.

No offense, but you can demand for the CA to remove the reporting, but the CA can legally ignore the letter if they still have collection authority when the account is paid to the OC.
