I am just wondering how Lexington Law Credit Repair removes items that are "true" from your credit report? I have late payments from a time period where I paid alot of money a month for my mother's assisted living care. I was late on those payments to those companies..... Lexington Law can get those late payments removed from my credit? If they dispute the debt or payment I am sure that the companies can validate what was reported, the account and the lack of payment. I'm just trying to see if this is a service worth me getting.

I was scammed. They were too good to be true and I payed the price. I was promised a lot and I was a fool to believe them. It was for a minor repair too that I should have taken care of myself. Two late payments on a credit card from 2013 on a USAA credit card. I disputed once and nothing happened. I tried these guys with promise of results and they just charged me money and NEVER answered the phones again. I had to cancel my payment card because I couldn't cancel the subscription. You have to get them on the phone for that. They have all my info and I'm worried now. My report and FICO just got back to decent territory and now I'm worried they will destroy it all. I'm venting and looking for advise.

I used them for just over a year and they helped me remove 37 negatives, it doesn't happen fast but they will help, they generally only send a certain number of letters per month, so they can keep you subscribing and paying for their service. It was at a time when I really didn't have the time to do the disputes myself, it was worth it to me because I had the extra money but not the time. Decided to quit using them when it got down to 10 negatives and I figured I could do it faster myself, and it was more managable with fewer negative accounts. They helped me move from mid 500's to high 600's/low 700's.

Then after about 7 months, no matter if I called or not, the action ceased so I felt like they had done all that they can do for me so I cancelled. I don't believe it's a scam but I do believe that they can only do what they can do depending on your credit profile. It was a good way for me to get organized early on in my credit rebuild journey...still on the journey and looking a lot better than 4 years ago....good luck..I think that you will be ok. Ask a lot of questions and do not hesitate to call if you fell like nothing is getting done....just my experience and opinion....:

I've used them once and within the first month they were able to remove a collection that was less than a year old. To this day it hasn't come back and it's been roughly two years. Although they haven't made much of a difference for me since then, I'm going to pay another month or so and if nothing else gets removed other than what I have gotten fixed myself, I'm going to cancel. The collection removal gave me a good 35 point increase. The rest of my increases came from paying down utilization and continuous calling to companies reporting derogs. By myself I've already gotten 5 accounts with late payments good will adjusted and within this month those will be removed off my report (hopefully.) Ultimately, in most scenarios they can be of help but they work very slowly to keep you as a paying customer for longer, especially if you have multiple negatives on your profile.

I used them for a little while. They actually made my score drop about 40 points. It was worse when I canceled them, then when I first signed up. And I had one collection removed for it to come back with a vengeance. It was put right back on EQ. But, this time it was also added to my EQ. It wasn't on EQ before.

Thanks for the info I have 1 late that just reported on my account from Drive Time haven't been late in 3 years or more and I'm fearing it will hurt me in trying to increase my score. I traded the car in because it would have been more difficult to repair. I'm disputing it but I've read they don't budge I was going to use a credit repair service to help me in my 2 year goal for house purchase but I will be patient.

If that is the case, the negative impact from that late has diminished. If you were to get the late removed, you probably wont see much of a score bump if any.

I think the best way of getting the late removed is by a Goodwill Adjustment request. You can do a search to learn more about it.

Hiring a credit repair firm like Lexington is not a good idea. In fact it can do more harm then good. Chances are that all the negative information that folks claim that Lexington removed proabably should not been on the CR in the first place and they could have done it themselves.

Sorry you had a bad experience so far, OP. Further proof that everything in credit is YMMV.

I used them sometime in 2015 into I suppose mid-2016 and thought they did a great job, though it did take a significant length of time. To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a single thing they can do that you couldn't do yourself. In some circumstances, it would be better to do it yourself when considering expense and that you can only dispute things so many times and in so many ways before it is viewed as a frivolous dispute.

They only dispute/challenge X number of things each month and for the large amount of valid negatives I had (judgments/COs/etc) they were fantastic and worth the money, removing about 90+%. I found them to be very responsive too, but I was using one of the higher tier programs. Using them for a couple of late payments is like trying to kill a fly with a shotgun.

LL will eventually hit a wall...there were a few judgments they couldn't get off and a Cap1 Auto CO on EX that wouldn't budge. 2 judgments came off with my own efforts, but I'm left with 1 satisfied on EQ and the Cap1 on EX. They're both 6 years old.

If you're really dissatisfied, have you tried the chat function? I've found that to work pretty well. And of course you can file complaints with BBB/CFPB etc.

After a while I was not seeing any new progress - so I ended the subscription.

Yes ITA - I could have done all the work that both MMI and Lexington did if I had the time and energy - however, if you need the service - it sure is helpful - and ITA they can only do so much. Now that my health has improved, I have been able to join myfico.com and review all 3 credit reports and contact creditors/collection agencies myself or dispute items with Credit Bureau and get final items cleared up. I am down to one "baddie" which was paid during the DMP and I forgot about it. When I disputed the debt with Credit Bureau, the Collections Agency sent me and the credit bureau a letter stating the debt had been paid and requested it be removed from my file!!! Woohoo!!! Im waiting on this last item to go away -they say it takes up to 60 days, then I fully expect to join the 700 club!!!

@sjt wrote:

@sparklerd34 wrote:

Couple of things:

Your one late payment on Drive Time is over three years old, correct? If that is the case, the negative impact from that late has diminished. If you were to get the late removed, you probably wont see much of a score bump if any.

I think the best way of getting the late removed is by a Goodwill Adjustment request. You can do a search to learn more about it.

Hiring a credit repair firm like Lexington is not a good idea. In fact it can do more harm then good. Chances are that all the negative information that folks claim that Lexington removed proabably should not been on the CR in the first place and they could have done it themselves.

Well the one late payment they just put on was just recently. Other than that i havent been late at all. I traded my drive time car in but at this point ive already sent a dispute with my proof it was paid. But i appreciated your input. Thats what i will do i also saw some info where i removed myself from the opt in list . i will keep doing the PIF and good will letters to see. I am not in a desperate hurry to get any new credit.

thanks again!

How long did it take for your results if you don't mind sharing. I think they say you don't see any results for 6 months

For clarification, you mentioned you havent been late in over 3 years, but you also mentioned that they just reported a late. So are you saying they just reported 3 year old late?

If you were not late and you have the canceled check to prove it, I would contact Drive Time and dispute with the CRA at the same time.
