I wouldn't apply for any more credit unless you have a solid pre-qualification showing. Any HPs are going to hurt badly with a low credit score. Have you tried the capital one pre-qualified page? You might be able to get another secured card from them. The more positive credit lines on your report, the better. I'd also look into getting a secured loan, so that will also report. No advice on NFCU other than to take care of the debt and talk to a representative in person about becoming a member again. What is your SOL for charge offs?

hey you all i am not new to the forum i have been lurking for years but i am on a quest to rebuild my credit. i have made a lot of poor decisions in my youth and i am now in my late twenties trying to clean up for my future. I recently applied for a discover it secured credit card and was approved i put a 300 dollars down as a security deposit i also plan on adding more. i will begin with my experian fico score is a 539 i have a two bad collectiions charge off from an auto loan for 17 k and 4,400 CC from navy federal that is also charged off but still reporting each month as a late payment and i have not paid the bill since jan 2013. i am just trying to figure out how i can get out of this mess and eventually get into the 700 credit score range. i also miss banking with navy federal but i have heard that they do not let you back in once you're burned. has anyone had any luck with getting back in with them after hard times? is there any advice any of my credit guru's can give me out there. thank you kindly,

xoxo

Once you 'burn' NFCU, you're pretty much done. If it were ME, I would work toward paying them off in someway shape or form. Why? Because once you're back in, you're in gold territory. Once you can decide how to proceed.

you won't ever get back in with Navy, unless you pay them back in full. Was your car loan with Navy as well? If so, did it get repo'ed? If it was only your CC that you quit paying on, you could call them and see if they would make payment arrangements with you again. Did it go to an outside CA??
