For the last few months I have been reading about credit scores, how they are factored, pretty much anything and everything fo educate myself. Getting my credit into tip top shape has turned into my number one priority. (Aiming for a score over 750...and someday 800+)

Over the last several years I have paid off collections, opened a credit card, gotten a few store cards, set up automatic payments, and reminder notifications.

As I was going through my reports I realized there were 5 late payments listed on my student loan account from 2013. I called the loan servicing company and they said they couldnt remove it but it shouldn't be on my credit reports because the loan was in forbearance/deferment at that time. They told me to contact the credit bureaus to file a dispute. As I looked closer I think they were right. On time payments listed then...BAM! five 120 day late payments in a row and then back to on time payments. I filed disputes with the 3 credit bereaus. Now its just a waiting game.

Last November I went through a rough patch in my relationship, moved out and kinda started over. I ended up missing a capital one payment. Seriously just missed it like a total flake. Account was made current as soon as I realized, with on time payments since. I made a call tonight to capital one, the gentleman I spoke to said I had great payment history, pay more then the minimum payment and now have auto payments set up. He is submitting a dispute for goodwill removal and expect a letter in 10 to 20 days with their decision.

Since my credit took a dive my score has gone from 576 in Jan to 642 as of today. Paid my credit cards down from 99% total utilization to 55%. This next month I hope to get it to 30%, and the following month down to about 10%.

Really hope I can get those late payments removed because I know they are dragging my score way down. Anticipating it might take more phone calls and letters before it happens if it even does happen. Going to stick it out for a few more months to see how it plays out. I have been contemplating paying a credit repair company if I am unsuccessful. Being patient and taking it one month at a time is so hard!

I certainly hear you! Patience is tough to have with this. Makes you appreciate it that much more once you get your credit back to tip top shape.

Capital One is great customer service wise, my bet is they grant you the good will due to the history you stated you have with them. Please make sure to report back with their decision. Rooting for you.

Update!

Transunion has removed the incorrect late payments from my student loan account and it is now showing 100% on time. That was quick!
