I would pass on Citi if I had a CO with them. They declined me for the secured card two years post discharge and I had good scores, lots of reestablished credit, not to many inquiries, and they did a double pull! I finally got in with them last year -- three years post discharge -- and I did not IIB them. At 7 years they will approve you for their unsecured products -- which is better than those who say no until it's off your reports at 10 years.

Hello Everyone,

I filed bankruptcy in July 2016 and have been working hard to rebuild my credit. I very happy with the progress I have made so far mostly due to reading this board. I need my follow fico friends expertise... I had a Citi chargeoff over 10 years ago and I know they have a long memory, I have not tried to get back in with them, especially since my B/K. Should I go for the Citi secured now or just leave it alone and let what I have grow ?

All of my other information should be in the signature. Thank you in advance!

Thank you in advance!

If you want to apply for their secured card, your BK needs to have 1). Been discharged, and reflect it on reports 2). BK has to be 2 yrs old from DC date. It states that on the application.

So you if want to apply, Id wait till August.

It is a good way to build up history with them. The card will NOT graduate early, and it will stay secured for 18 months. A month before graduation, they will HP your credit, and see if you qualify for graduation. If you do, it will graduate to the Diamond Preferred card, which is one of their legacy cards. At that time, you could PC it to the DC if you wanted too.

Thank You

Do you think it's worth it or do you think I can get back in with a legacy card without going the secured route ?

In my opinion you should just let the 7 or so cards you have age and soon your score will be high enough for prime unsecured cards. ☺
