I ship as part of my business and often when something gets "stuck" you can sign up for tracking updates at USPS via the tracking number and it will kick loose again.

Did it ever update after leaving the origin PO?

Did it make it to any other city & update? If so call the last known locations PO and inquire.

You can also call the destination PO and inquire..

It wasn't going to or leaving from CA was it? So many fires, there could be delays..

It could also be as simple at the recipient not going to sign for it or a miss-scan. Don't panic yet- there are MANY reasons this can happen.

Good Luck

Hello,

I recently sent in a dispute to Equifax via USPS Certified Mail Return Receipt. The letter contained a copy of my Drivers License and Social Security Card, which the bureau had asked me to mail with for verification purposes. Sure, that was fine by me. That was July 27th.

Here it is August 8th and it still says in transit on the tracking site. Went to the Post Office I mailed it out at and they have no idea where my letter is.

Anyone ever had this happen?

What should I do? Lawsuit?

This leaves the door open for identity theft.

The lady had the audacity to say “well you can mail those documents again through another one of our services and then we can refund you for the first service.” No way, of you lost the first one why on earth would I trust you with a second one?

Any and all info is appreciated.

Thank you.

You're overreacting. A lawsuit is only appropriate if there are damages, and only effective if you can prove damages. That would be something almost impossible to prove unless new accounts were opened up by a postal employee...

Unfortunately, every day seems to see a new threat of identity theft. It's part of modern life. You can freeze your credit reports, meaning you'd have to unfreeze them in advance if you want to apply to anything. You can also contact each credit reporting bureau and put a fraud alert on your info. This will cause any applications to require additional verification and not be "instant."

As for the letter. You'd need to send it again in some manner. I'd recommend certified and with tracking. With hundreds of millions of pieces of mail and shipments stuff *does* get lost sometimes. When it does it helps to take a breath and sort out the best next step, which is probably to resend.

Tracking was included on this particular letter.

While I do understand Mail gets lost and identity theft scares are almost the new norm nowadays, I don’t feel I am overreacting as it is literally my identity.
