Help with too many open accounts

I would like to raise my fico score within the next couple of months. My biggest problem seems to be too many open accounts. Does anyone have any suggestions on the manor in which i should do so. (close older or newer? Any ratios to be concerned with?) any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That refers to all accounts, not just open accounts. Closing accounts will not help there.

only 6 of these are not credit cards. Most of them are old paid off retailer cards. EX: best buy, Sears, Macys, ect...
