If you paid them 5k in March and it wasn't applied to your account, I would definitely fight it. Did you show it to your attorney? What did the branch say when you showed the copies of the checks?
While 5k isn't enough to retire on, it's still a nice chunk of change, not like it's $5. I would personally make sure that it was accounted for.

Santander LOC

So I am here seeking and DP's from anyone that has dealt with Santander for loans- I had a LOC opened back in 2017. Unsecured. The loan proccess was horrific. Denied, then they changed their mine, then denied again. Two weeks later got a call to come sign doccuments. After 6 months I realized they were not posting payments correctly ( interest only, not applying both interest and principal) During this time I was undergoing ID theft from my twin brother, and fell behind. I was always contacting them to doccument it, offered to send doccuments, ect. Fast forward to Nov 2018- paid 14k with a bank check. Then paid 5k March of 2019, also with a bank check. This would have left about 1k of credit left to pay that was used. Auto payments were set up. Last summer when I had my lawyer finally clearing up the issues in court with my brother I discovered they had charged off the LOC. Mind you its important to note I had a cosigner on the account, who never received one phone call, one notice, or anything.

- My main issue is they claim to never have received the payment in March. I have a copy of both checks, presented them in a branch and want to fight this. I guess I am wondering if its worth fighting, or settle the CO which they claim is 9100. I have the money to PIF however I dont rightfully beleive I owe that amount. Just looking for clarification, and my reflection of Santander is just my opinion.

So the branch wasnt helpful at all, other than taking my complaint to the executive office. The first call I got basically said send us doccuments about your alleged ID theft. So I overnighted them- police reports, credit reports with deletions, ect. As well as the copies of both bank checks- my lawyer said if they continue to play dumb we will certainly bring it to court. I agree 5k isnt a huge amount but as I rebuild it is 5K better spend elsewhere. Right now it is the last thing on my CR- showing charged off. At this point I want the best outcome for my score
