topic Bank of America not reporting! in Rebuilding Your Credit

DH (who's credit we're desperately trying to boost from a MyFICO score of 510 *yikes*!) has, because of his job (with the Fed. government), a BoA Government Travel Card with a CL of $4K+. We pay it religiously, on time, all the time (of course, it helps that the gov reimburses us immediately, LOL!). He's had this MasterCard for over 7 years.

Problem is, it doesn't report on hubby's CRs!! What can we do?? I know, know, know, that if we didn't pay this bill it WOULD be reported to the CRAs (I don't see a CCC going after the US gov!). And hubby DID have to have his CRs pulled when he applied for it, and he DID sign a CC agreement.

Is there anything we can do to have this perfect, perfect, perfect history reported to the CRAs, thus making our credit scores higher?!

Thank you SO much in advance!!! And thank you MUCH for forgiving my ignorance!!

You can do absolutely nothing about this! It is a government issued card for travel purposes only.

Your credit was not considered when receiving it. It's completely administered by the government.

sorry

@tiff wrote:

You can do absolutely nothing about this! It's completely administered by the government.

sorry

Actually, DH's credit WAS considered when he got the card (and for the "bumps" up in credit line over the years) ... further research I've done (via phone, internet, etc) has confirmed that they CAN report the card, but usually choose not to (don't know why). And they DO report the card if there's any delinquencies over 120 days (though most often over 175 days).

We've never been more than 2 days delinquent on this card ... mainly because hubby HAS to use it for his work and he travels A LOT ...

One CSR said that DH will have to request, in writing, that it be reported, and that even then it might not. Apparently, they consider it to be "too much trouble" seeing as how they KNOW it will be paid somehow (it's automatically deducted by % from the cardholder's pay if they don't). So I guess they have no need of "incentive" to get it paid.

Last time it was used it was ok I guess. The CL changes all the time, depending on what the card is needed for at that time.

Unfortunatly, the hard inquirie counts against your credit score

Oh, I know what you mean!! That's always driven me bonkers!! I mean, they're traveling for the benefit of the GOVERNMENT and the gov takes it's sweet time reimbursing us!!

Just in the last two years, the US Navy (hubby's employer -- civilian) has started using a new automated web-based system ... we now get paid within 1-2 weeks (as opposed to the past, which was 2-3 months! GRRR!!)

We've NEVER let the card go delinquent beyond a day or two .. too scared to. If hubby can't travel, he can't get his work done, if he can't get his work done, someone else will ... you get the picture. Besides that, it's a small town and EVERYONE works for the Navy ... so if we missed a payment, EVERYONE we know would know. Our base is the poster child for "loose lips sink ships!"

The CSR I spoke to at BoA travel services said that DH/cardholder can call and then send in a request in writing to have his account reported to the CRAs. No promises, though. If you're interested, I'll let you know how it turns out ...

His is about $10K and gets util anywhere from 2-100% monthly ... and paid off by the next cycle. In fact, balance just paid in full for a $5K group of trips just two weeks ago ...
