Comcast/ERC... is this success?

In 2015, there was a misunderstanding between my old roommate and I. I thought she returned the cable box; she thought I returned it.

She bought a house. I moved to Arizona.

Two years ago, I got a collections letter for the equipment. I paid it (before I know about this forum). It's obviously annoying to have this on my credit report outside of the fact that I can't even get Comcast service in the Phoenix area.

I'm trying to clean up my CRs as much as humanly possible. I sent out GWs to Capital One, my credit union, and ERC last night.

On the high of also being approved for a Delta Skymiles card today (!!!) I decided to reach out to Comcast directly to see if they'll remove it from my credit report.

Below is what the customer service agent said:

I have proof from Comcast that they said they'll remove it.

I just sent ERC a request through their website for a copy of the confirmation letter as I paid it by phone in Dec 2018, and it's marked as PIF on my CRs.

This is good news, yes? Just want to make sure I'm not getting my hopes up.

Comcast can ask ERC to delete it but cannot force them to do so. Each creditor is responsible for their own TLs, since Comcast is a cuistomer of ERCs they most likely will acede to Comcasts wishes.

Comcast can ask ERC to delete it but cannot force them to do so. Each creditor is responsible for their own TLs, since Comcast is a cuistomer of ERCs they most likely will acede to Comcasts wishes.

Since there is no longer a debt for Comcast to recall, they may not be willing to delete it.

They may delete it.

I would say 50/50 chance.

Often times if there is a CA, you generally negotiate with the OC (Comcast) to recall the debt from the debt collector in exchange for payment directly to them.

Update: spoke with Comcast again today and they will be removing this 2 year old PIF CO. 🙌🏻

ERC is not receptive for removal, However i did reachout to comcast directly and paid an old bill of 571.00 with them. It dated back from 2018. I then contacted the credit bureas and disputed and it was removed in less than 2 weeks. You have to be diligent and press your way through it works. my score increased 30 points

Thank you for this tip! I disputed it on Experian and provided screen shots, and they deleted it already! Just did the same thing for TU. For some reason this isn't on EQ. I'm hoping for a big score jump!

@Anonymous Congrats on the removal!!! Did you have any other collections reporting? If so, it could explain why you only noticed a small bump.

It could also be related to the new account you just opened. Depending on your average age of accounts you might notice a dip when opening a new loan or cc.

Most of my accounts are pretty new. I have one baddie lingering but its 5 years old and $4200. I'm past the SOL and even if I settle it, I'll get a 1099 for the difference. I have to ride this one out, unfortunately l.
