Credit Karma's Direct Dispute INSTANTLY deleted a collection bc of dispute?

Dont get me wrong, I'm glad Credit Karma's Direct Dispute feature (robot?) ruled in my favor but I had no sooner hit the submit button then I got an email saying my results were in. Anybody else have this sort of experience?

I disputed an old AU account from my ex spouse. I no sooner had hit the submit button when I received an email just as you did, informing me the account in question had been instantly removed from my TU report.

Dude... that's legit crazy. It's almost like TU suspects that it isnt 100% correct so it takes any dispute and discards the item. I gotta admit, this makes me really want to try it with another item on my report but I guess I'd better let the dust settle a bit first.

The exact same thing happened to me just the other day. I disputed an AU account from an ex and it was instantly removed, within minutes.

I just dont think so. If you check out the pic, it clearly says investigation is "complete" and the result is a deletion. Then, you have a few others that seem to have the same result.

The point some are alluding to is that Credit Karma is fluff. It almost teeters on the verge of just being complete entertainment. Pull your report from Annual Credit Report and see what the results are.

There are well-established dispute procedures and policies. Credit Karma isn't the magic bullet. As they say, if it seems to good to be true...

Agree with this and the same as stated by Birdman upthread. When I disputed my account with CK I had the same result as you. I waited until the next day and pulled a full report from ACR to compare and sure enough, the account WAS deleted. NOW, what the others are saying is that sometimes how the process works is that when you submit a dispute, they remove the account from your reports while the dispute is being investigated. If you win the dispute, it stays gone. If the dispute comes back as verified from the lender as being accurate information, then it is added back to your report. I know it says "complete," and for your sake I hope it stays that way, but what everyone is saying about being cautious that a negative account can magically disappear in 3 seconds with one click of a mouse is absolutely true. I promise no one is trying to rain on your parade, we're just being realistic. Please keep us up to date of what happens, though!

Most disputes will update the acct status to "dispute". I've never seen a deletion during the dispute process. Is this a new feature? To be honest I've not disputed an item via CK, i've only disputed via the credit agencies. Just recently I disputed inaccuracies via EQ on 2 accounts that are about to fall off next year any way. However, those accounts were not taken off they were only updated to "in dispute". Once the account reporting was verified, my EQ FICO 8 score went up 17 points. I am not sure why, because the accounts were only updated (one is a CO from about 7 years ago that I paid the balance off in full and the other was a revolving account from a furniture store from 9 years ago that was paid in full about 6 years ago and has not been updated since 2014). These are accounts were not properly updated and I disputed the reporting.

@Anonymous Give us details on the data before and after and maybe we can explain. Would make sense if it showed unpaid and went to paid, or if dispute is pending.

That's exactly what it was. It updated from unpaid to paid with the amount paid and a 0 balance. However it's still a CO, so I didn't expect a score change because that. besides the account is scheduled to fall off in 2021, so I figured that this account is so old that it doesn't matter. For the Furniture acct it was more of an accuracy issue with the account still being active now it is showing closed. Again this is an old account. Thanks

Yes but the payment history category considers the amount owed on delinquent accounts. So it was penalizing you for that balance until you brought it to zero. Yes you’re still being penalized for having a past chargeoff, but you’re not having the additional penalty for it still having the amount owed! Congratulations!

Well I just tried it for a friend and it instantly deleted a collection from TransUnion as well. has anyone had this experience with Equifax?
