Once a consumer has filed a dispute, FCRA 611(c) requires the CRA to include, in any subsequent consumer report they issue, notice of the dispute.

Only disputes that are dismissed on the grounds that they are found to be "frivolous or irrelevant" are exempt from this mandatory requirement.

However, once the dispute is resolved, that fact must additionally be updated in the consumer's file/report.

Thus, it is likely that resolution will be limited to proper update of the subsequent outcome of the dispute rather than total removal from the consumer's credit file/report.

However, it might be interesting to see how the CFPB views the requirement of FCRA 611(c). I would urge filing of a complaint, but would expect a finding of no violation of the FCRA on their part....

_______________
" FCRA 611(c) Notification of consumer dispute in subsequent consumer reports.

Whenever a statement of a dispute is filed, unless there is reasonable grounds to believe that it is frivolous or irrelevant, the consumer reporting agency shall, in any subsequent report containing the information in question, clearly note that it is disputed by the consumer and provide either the consumer’s statement or a clear and accurate codification or summary thereof. "
