I have been reading these boards for years and it has really helped me on my credit rebuilding journey. I just became an "official" member this month because we are trying to get approved to purchase our first house and I am monitoring our scores. I helped my husband build credit for the last 2 years (he had none prior) and worked on a few collections on my account, which was dragging my score. I have ONE left. And its CRM collecting for AT&T on a 5 year old debt.

So here is the issue at hand: I have been back and fourth with AT&T reps for the last 3 weeks trying to get to the bottom of this, just trying to pay this account. I was told by AT&T reps (a couple of different ones) that they can help get to my old account to pay it. Everytime we get to the point of being able to pay directly, they ask for the passcode (don't have it and I'm almost certain it didnt exist 6 years ago when I signed up with them) but they always say they can't get to it bc its with a different team, but this other group can help. Well after 3-4 hours this afternoon I'm no further in paying them. Nobody knows what the hell to do on their side. My worry is with paying CRM directly, that it may do more harm than good if they choose not to delete. They have refused in the past to give me anything in writing that says they will PFD, they say they dont do it. But I have seen a bunch of people here say that after they paid CRM they deleted the collection, but may take a while. I totally get why they dont want things like that in writing bc of their agreement to accurately report to the CRAs. So what is the score increase difference if I leave it alone VS pay it and they dont delete and update to "PAID" VS pay and they delete the collection account. I'm stuck on what to do. We re-run credit with the mortgage lender next month and I am 30 points shy of qualifying for a way better rate and down payment grants. I believe the other 2 collections has gotten me very close, so I may be about 10 points under that goal now. I don't want to do more damage to my credit, but I will absolutely pay this collection if it will improve my score even more. This is my last baddie, it's $583 and I have been stuck on it for a while. Any insight? Thanks a ton, you guys have really helped a lot all these years, even if you didn't know it.

I'm in a similar boat. I called AT&T, and they couldn't find the account, leaving me no choice but to deal with the collection agency. The woman I spoke to at Credence told me that it will be deleted within 14 days once paid. It's been two days and the waiting is killing me, LOL. I'll let you know if/when it drops.

Same! I ended up just paying CRM Wednesday. They said I would get a receipt in 2-3 business days by email. Didn't receive it by Friday so I called. The lady said they sent the account off to be "closed" Friday and I will receive a receipt of payment in 2-3 days, and that it would be deleted from all 3 reports within 14 "business days". I am submitting an app for a mortgage and once I get the receipt, my loan officer can update my credit file on the fly to proceed with approval. I will harass them if I have to lol. I guess I just need to be patient. The other 3 collections I recently paid and the one I paid over the summer have all been deleted after I paid, and some I settled for less, and were still deleted. So I guess I just need to be patient. I HATE it 😂. Please do let me know if/when yours drops and I will check in once mine does too.

So do this collection agency delete after paid in full/ or settlement thanks in advance as I got a old bill of 174 as I remember AT&T said I didn't owe them anything I'd rather settle n get it deleted

I've done a ton of research and people say this particular agency doesn't delete if you only pay a settled amount, so I just paid the whole thing. If you can swing it, just pay it so it comes off your reports. Hope this helps.

UPDATE: Credit Report is now showing "paid in full". From what I've read from other people's experiences with CRM, and their agents, they update to paid a few days after payment, and delete completely after 2 weeks. Let's hope that's the case.

When CRM hit my CR I immediately paid ATT directly then sent out distputes for all 3. They made modification to "paid". About a month later it fell off. After that they sent me about 5 responses to debt validation letter that I didn't send (I'm guessing for the CRA disputes - first time I recieved a response directly - these were spread out over 6 months). They also sent me 2 recipts for my payments made to AT&T which I never asked for. It was really a strange experience but it came off and stayed off.

This account is almost 6 years old, and I tried for about 2 months to find a way to pay AT&T and they wouldn't take my payment. But I've read others have success with paying CRM and them deleting within a month's time. It also was only on 2 of my reports to begin with. I'll update again once it comes off.

I'm still waiting. They updated as paid, which had, as expected, no effect on my FICO 8 scores. It did raise my FICO 9s by 40 pts, however, so I'm hopeful that if they actually do delete I'll see a nice bump in the FiCO 8s. Good luck to us all 🤞
