If it was never charged off and paid back in full, I would think she'd be able to be approved, albeit with smaller limits. But this is a unique situation; I'd never seen it here actually, so I'll defer to others who may have more insight.

I did a search but couldn't quite find what I was looking for. DW & I were married about 5 years ago. Just before we got together she had defaulted on a $15k Freedom card. She did not have then and still has no other derogs. Her reports are clean accross the board. Chase did NOT charge off this debt at the time as it had just happened. We made a workable plan with Chase to pay this debt off at $61/week and just a couple of weeks ago we were successful in completely retiring every penny. Chase dutifully reported these payments and the only remark on this account on all 3 CRA's is that it's a closed account. Now, remarks on accounts from CRA's are one thing, actual creditor internals are something else. Given this information, can anyone here offer friendly guidance on when and how approaching Chase for CC consideration for her might work. She's worked hard to be responsible and pay this off, and she currently hovers in the 770 - 785 F8 neighborhoods across the big 3. I currently have a CC (CFU) with Chase and also have excellent credit. Hope someone can help. Thanks

How soon was the defaulted account PIF? I would 30 days from the confirmed date of payment for their internal system to "update", and also for the reports to reflect it (if it was reported), and try for a card.

If she's denied, call the BD number to the UW and ask for reconsideration, explaining that you've paid the defaulted card in full, and that youre sitting better financially now. You could also tell them you're willing to accept a lower SL to prove yourself again, and to rebuild a good history with them again as well.

I just want to share my experience so you can use it as a datapoint.

About ten years ago, I went through the exact same scenario with Chase. The account was delinquent/closed, but I was able to reach a payment arrangement with them before the account charged-off, which I paid completely. After a successful GW request, the account was removed from my credit report, and overall my credit was in a much better place. I applied for a Chase credit card in 2014 and 2015. They denied me both times due to my previous history with Chase. I tried to recon, and they were impressed with my credit limits at NFCU and Bank of America, but they asked for more positive history before they could approve. I haven’t tried since because I’ve had some unfortunate circumstances that caused me to file for bankruptcy. But hopefully in the next 5 to 10 years.
