Unifin - Verizon Collection Question

I have rebuilt my credit. I've bought a house, I've been able to get a car loan for a decent rate, opened a few credit cards but this is looming over me. To the tune of about $4300. Long story short I lost my hubby in 2011. Somewhere along the way, I decided I wanted to become independent and get my own cell plan. Then I defaulted. I honestly have no idea why it's that amount but here we are. During the process of buying my house the two collections aside from this one I had I was able to settle for less. I have tried a few different times to do that with Unifin to no avail. The amounts they want a month are out of my budget. Does anyone have any suggestions? On my credit report, it shows this collection was opened with Unifin in June of 2019. However, I feel was earlier than that. So I don't want to wait 7 years for it to hopefully be removed. Does anyone have any history with paying for less? The guy just offered me about 936 a month. That's not in my budget. Any suggestions?

If this has not passed the SOL leave it alone as you dont have the funds. Once the SOL passes then you can settle for less as they could not get a successful judgment. It is considered a written contract for SOL purposes. When the time comes you could make a deal with Verizon to settle in exchange for recalling the collection.

The collection open date is merely when Unifin acquired the account and first reported it. The DOFD is the date for when you first missed a payment, went delinquent, and never got current again. Do you know when that first missed payment was? I'd assume it was sometime in 2011/2012, unless you were able to keep up for a while afterwards. If you don't know this date, look on your credit reports from annualcreditreport.com.

Okay, so then Verizon is out of the picture. Jefferson owns the debt and has hired Unifin to collect. The good news is Jefferson Capital deletes their TL once settled or paid in full, as I mentioned above. The bad news is they (Unifin, their collector) seem to not want to negotiate. Have you tried calling Jefferson Capital and negotiating with them directly?

Also, despite Unifin's 2019 open date, it would NOT remain 7 years. It would still have to follow the 7 year fall off period of the original DOFD, which seems to be 2016. Thus, Unifin would also fall off May 2023 regardless of payment or not. But like I said, waiting it out is risky for many reasons.

I have not called Jefferson and certainly am willing to try. I have tried twice to negotiate with Unifin and they will not budge. It's crazy.

I know I own a house, car, and have rebuilt my credit but I just want this gone, I just can't swing what Unifin wanted, nor the length.
