So i decided to open an account at best buy in july 2019 for theyre citibank credit card in which i was approved right then and there. Fast forward september 2020 i was laid off work due to COVID 19 in which i stopped making payments. now the account is closed and hurt my credit bad. i currently owe 4,509 in which im able to pay them in full but want to know my options at this point will a goodwill pay to delete work or do i just pay them the full amount and let time dictate the score going up ? it also doesnt state it was sent to a collection agency but i did recieve a letter from a collection agency if i wanted to setlle for less.

It sounds like they didn't sell the debt off, but merely hired a third party CA to collect on their behalf. Is there a separate collection on your reports? If not, I'd settle/pay in full ASAP before they DO sell to a CA and you end up with a collection reporting in addition to the CO.

Also, the odds of a GW removal with the original creditor are slim to none, unfortunately.

You may want to contact Citi and see if they will be willing to work with you given the circumstances.

I work with a financial institution (not citi) and we have been able to assist some of our customers affected by the pandemic. Depending on the situation, some reporting is only updated as "affected by natural disaster" . I do not know if that is helpful or harmful, but I think it depends on account history prior to the pandemic.

Yeah I actually have no other collection but the city/bestbuy , now should I call them or do I send a letter ?

I will be giving that a try see if they're still willing to help but I heard since they closed the account it's better to not negotiate anything through the phone but through a letter ?
