Yeah I have spent hours reading about that, tried some letters, then tried some emails, then more emails. Just wondering if anyone knows more about letters vs emails and whether they would have to speak with me for sure. Seems like some letter writers got it removed without a phone call.

My credit is basically recovered, but I'm still trying to get one old 30d late removed to improve my mortgage scores.

Before the pandemic, I had emailed someone higher up a page explaining the situation, and they said they could help me, and they had left me a voicemail too. However, I have lost or misplaced the email and voicemail.

Later, I emailed again and I got no replies, but I started getting voicemails. IMO the problem is that the voicemails told me to call the main number and didn't give me any sort of reference number. Therefore I think that I would be speaking to your everyday reps who would tell me that nothing can be done (whereas the first time it seemed that I would be talking to someone who had actually read my email).

I'm also disabled and speaking to someone is an issue, unless it is straightforward and brief such as confirming my identity. I would want to "speak" via TTY/TDD but I don't know if any of the higher up people could do that. I mentioned the phone difficulty in my emails and that was apparently ignored. Hope to get some advice here on how to proceed.

I was thinking of sending dozens of letters over weeks, but I wonder if that would just get them to call me. Capital One seems incredibly careful and difficult.

Getting Cap1 to do a GW is like playing the lottery. Some win. Most lose. Its isnt impossible though. Best bet is right above in the search bar. Type in Cap One GW Success. You'll see many example how each person got a successful GW deletion. Explain in your letters to the higher ups that you'd prefer a TTY call. But state in your letter best time to call. And be there when they do. Least they are trying to contact you. When you say old. After 2 yrs it doesnt mean too much to a score if its a lone 30 day. Best of luck!

Write a letter referring to your late payment to the effect of:

i.e. Dear Cap One, i was going through my credit report and noticed a late payment on MM/YY. I do not recall ever being late and would like verification of this. This is incorrect information that is hurting my credit score, as i am trying to secure a mortage loan. Please remove the 30 day late, and update to "paid"

Essentially, the burden is on them to prove that you were in fact late. If they cannot provide substantial evidence (they wont be able to) it must be deleted for inaccuracy

I cannot comment on the TTY/TDD aspect of your question, but as for the rest...

Yes, they will want to speak with you. This is so they can make sure it's actually you doing it, and that you're not using someone else/a company to do it for you and using a fake recycled story to try to get a goodwill exclusion. They also want to have you walk them through your reason again so they can discuss it and ask questions, and presumably judge truthfulness, i.e. if it matches what you've already told them in the emails.

They will have you call back the regular, general customer service number that goes to the everyday reps, but when they ask why you're calling you'd just explain you're returning a missed call to someone regarding an email you sent. They typically will then be able to look at your account and see notes from/about whoever tried calling you, and will transfer you to that person/team - who would go over everything as I discussed and would have the ability to help if they decide to approve the request.
